Well it's that time of year to get the AC unit all cozy for the long winter. There's a few things to do first:
1) Turn the power off; look for the switch. It should be near your unit. Some folks recommend pulling the fuse as well. You just want to make sure it can't be turned on accidentally in the winter.
2) Clean your AC unit. Wipe it down, remove any dirt and debris from the grates. The best is just a damp cloth with a little warm water and dish soap.
3) Inspect the unit. Look for leaks, cracks in the foam insulation. If any crack or missing insulation, it's recommend to repair it. If you are unsure, please contact an AC professional in your area to inspect and fix what's needed.
4) Change all your filters. Over the summer they may have become full of dirt and allergens, you don't need those blowing around your house all winter.
5) Cover the unit and secure the cover, bungee cords work great.
6) It's also a good idea to get your seasonally tune up for the AC. If anything is needing to be repaired for next summer, you can order it now. With alot of industries they have back order issues. So if you order it in the winter, it probably be a guarantee that it will be delivered before it's needed in the summer.

To ensure your home remains cool throughout the summer months and extreme heat, it is essential to schedule regular maintenance for your air conditioner with a licensed HVAC technician. It is recommended to have your AC unit inspected and tested annually, preferably in the spring. This proactive approach allows for any necessary repairs to be addressed before the peak of the summer heat.

In addition to routine maintenance, it is crucial to keep the air filters clean and have the technician inspect for any leaks in your ductwork or ventilation system. A well-sealed system ensures that your air conditioner operates efficiently, reducing the strain on the unit and potentially lowering energy costs. By taking these steps, you can enjoy a comfortable and cool home environment all summer long.
