After driving our car this weekend, Peter (.oooodle) made a great video about the various struggles we had. Give it a watch!
It still turned out to be a great time, with some great racing, but didn't end the way we wanted....

The Endurance race this past weekend at Trackfest 2 Torque Raceway hosted by the NASCC was a wild one, with everyone on the edge of their seats at the end, and the top 4 cars separated by only 12 seconds after 8 hours of racing!
We ended up coming home second in class and third overall, though with the new drivetrain these aren't the results we aimed for. By hour 6 of the race, and Tanner, Ben, and Trey running fantastic stints, we were 2nd overall and 1st in class, and leading our nearest competitor by over a lap. The weather had its own agenda though, and the heavens opened with steady rain with 90+ minutes left in the race. At this time Wil was driving, and the windshield completely fogged over (visible in some of the pictures here). Wil managed to keep it on the black stuff with the shiny side up, but racing blind isn't easy. Eventually, Wil was overtaken by the next car in class (who had a method of defogging in their car). Sadly, with no HVAC and no defrost on the front windshield, there wasn't a lot we could do except try to race safe and finish.
With 10 minutes left in the race, and the sun beginning to peek out from the clouds, Wil mounted a charge to catch the leading competitor, catching up to 2 seconds per lap of the 10 second gap. Unfortunately turn 4 was still blind due to the direction of sunlight, and he misjudged and spun on track. Though he recovered and finished, the gap was too large to overcome.
Though we didn't get the win we'd been pushing for all weekend, this was an awesome race, awesome competition, and amazing fun for everyone who came out. The car worked perfectly all weekend beyond a couple of little issues that we've already worked out, and of course the lack of defogging (which we've already taken steps to remedy). We'll keep pushing in the remaining races!

WIP (weekend in progress) photos from the inestimable of the sprint races happening at the Speedway Revival at RAD Torque Raceway this weekend. Disappointing day today but working on making tomorrow more successful.
Check out the new race streams and VODs at the Northern Alberta Sports Car Club NASCC Racing and Events page, with commentary by our own driver and all around good dude Tanner!
More racing all day tomorrow!

It's been a rough season for us so far, so the 2024 trophy shelf is a little bare. After the lackluster race we had in June at , then an engine failure at the double header enduro at RAD Torque Raceway, we finally got some solace at taking the class lap record from the June race, and this past weekend took home the class trophy for sprint racing with the Northern Alberta Sports Car Club NASCC Racing and Events though the car was down on power with the new engine. We're still working some bugs out ahead of the Speedway Revival sprint races next month, and the 12 hour enduro in September. If hard work is the measure of success, there will be some coming our way soon!

The first endurance race of the season at Rocky Mountain Motorsports ended on a bit of a disappointment for us, though we took away some useful info in several ways. During testing at the public track day the night before, Wil found that there was some sort of problem with getting into 4th gear, but it was manageable then. After an inspection, we couldn't find a problem and decided we could work with it through the race.
Saturday morning when the race started, Trey went out and grabbed the class lead immediately and held it for his stint, and by the end of Tanner's stint which came next, we were 2 laps up on our nearest competitor, but during this interval, finding 4th gear became more and more difficult. When Ben took over for the third stint, shortly after he got going, he found the car felt like it was going into limp mode. He pitted so we could check the problem, and we thought we had the problem fixed and sent him back out, but the problem immediately returned. Who could have known that it would turn out to be an injector harness vibrating itself until it unplugged? Big thanks to Matt Sinfield and 221 Racing for generously giving us a set of spark plugs to eliminate that as a potential issue, they're always such helpful guys at any event.
By the time the issue was sorted, we had lost 8 laps of time, leaving us 6 laps down on the class leader. Ben valiantly did his best to make up time, but the gap was too much to overcome. Wil took over for the final stint, and by this time the 4th gear issue had gotten so bad that the only person who could successfully drive the car consistently was Tanner. Wil decided to end his stint early and pass the car back to Tanner from sheer frustration, and Tanner worked his magic to bring the car home safe.
When we unloaded the car back at home, we found we had NO gears, so for Tanner to finish the race with a transmission in this condition is incredible! On diagnosis after the race, we found the shift selector had stripped its mounting bolts in the transmission, and was just flopping around inside the case, preventing gear operation. We've already fixed the problem and reinforced the mounting, but going from 1st to 4th in class is always going to feel less than great even if it's educational.
We're ready to roll for the NASCC 8 hour double header on July 6th & 7th at RAD Torque Raceway though, let's go!
First mention goes to the inestimable Mike Lancaster, the man, the myth, the legend. We would be lost without him.
