Nenshi is pandering to his political base. Low-information voters and the elderly who still believe that the NDP are the party of the working class (rather than a loosely fitting conglomerate of special interest groups) and that an independent Alberta will usher in a US style healthcare system that could potentially bankrupt thousands of Albertans.

Meanwhile the bought and paid for sycophantic MSM (which the elderly rely on for news coverage) continues to spread the narrative foisted by the federal government (and the forever Canada crowd) about how independence is bad for Alberta.
Imagine if this was the media mindset during the American revolution... or when Trudeau senior wanted to bring Canada's constitution home to Canada and people wanted Canada to "remain" under the protectorate of the UK... That's the mindset that is permeating this issue.

🚨 NAHEED NENSHI IS HOPING YOU NEVER CHECK THE NUMBERS 🚨

Nenshi throws out a wall of words, adds “far right,” blames Danielle Smith and hopes the outrage sticks.

But let’s slow it down and look at what Elections Alberta actually reported.

✅ Yes, the old rules required roughly 600,000 signatures for a constitutional initiative.

But those rules also required support from 20 percent of registered voters across Alberta and that same level of support in two thirds of Alberta’s constituencies.

That wasn’t a reasonable democratic threshold. It was a nearly impossible barrier designed to prevent citizens from ever reaching the ballot.

Now here’s where Nenshi’s story starts falling apart.

❌ Elections Alberta did not “toss” nearly 80,000 signatures.

The actual numbers were:

📌 286,593 signatures initially counted
📌 279,337 counted as valid
📌 222,597 estimated as verified after statistical sampling
📌 177,732 required for success

Only 7,256 signatures were rejected during the initial validation count.

The drop to 222,597 came from a statistical sampling process. Elections Alberta did not individually examine and “toss” another 56,740 pieces of paper.

And even after that process, the petition cleared the legal requirement by 44,865 verified signatures.

Elections Alberta also confirmed:

✅ No seeded names were found
✅ Nobody contacted said their name had been fraudulently added
✅ The petition was officially determined successful

And calling this “100 percent Danielle Smith’s referendum” erases the work of thousands of Alberta citizens.

The petition had a named citizen proponent. Danielle Smith has publicly stated that she supports Alberta remaining in Canada and would vote that way herself.

You can oppose independence. You can campaign against it. You can vote no.

But you don’t get to rewrite the numbers because Albertans successfully used a democratic process you don’t like.

That’s the part Nenshi never wants to discuss.

What would he change?
What threshold does he support?
What is his economic plan?
What taxes would an NDP government raise?
How much more would it spend?

Albertans deserve numbers, policies and answers.

Not another wall of political word salad followed by “Danielle Smith bad.”

Socialism always comes with a bill, and taxpayers are always the ones expected to pick it up.

Facts matter. Democracy matters. Albertans deserve their vote.
