Tired but unable to sleep? You are not alone. πŸŒ™πŸ’š

Insomnia is more than having an occasional restless night.

You may find yourself:

βœ” Lying awake while your body feels tired but your mind stays active.

βœ” Waking repeatedly throughout the night.

βœ” Waking too early and being unable to fall back asleep.

βœ” Feeling exhausted, foggy, irritable, or unmotivated during the day.

βœ” Worrying about whether you will sleep tonight.

Over time, worry about sleep can become part of the problem.

The more pressure you feel to sleep, the more alert your mind and body may become.

CBT I, or Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Insomnia, is an evidence based treatment designed specifically for ongoing sleep difficulties.

CBT I goes beyond general sleep tips.

It helps you understand the thoughts, behaviours, routines, and physiological responses that may be keeping insomnia active.

Treatment may help you:

πŸŒ™ Build healthier sleep patterns.

🧠 Reduce nighttime worry.

πŸ’š Develop greater confidence around sleep.

πŸ“ˆ Learn practical skills that can continue to support you after treatment ends.

At PsychSolutions, our CBT I program is a short term, structured treatment approach that includes six appointments delivered over approximately eight weeks.

Treatment is grounded in clear physiological, behavioural, and measurable strategies designed to help you understand your sleep and work toward meaningful improvements.

Sleep difficulties can be connected to stress, anxiety, pain, trauma, burnout, major life changes, or learned sleep patterns.

You do not have to keep guessing your way through another difficult night.

πŸ’š Sometimes, better sleep begins with understanding what is keeping you awake.

You can be successful and still be struggling.

High functioning professionals often become very good at pushing through.

You keep working. You meet deadlines. You make decisions. You show up for everyone else.

Brain fog and reduced concentration.

Emotional exhaustion and reduced resilience.

Poor sleep and ongoing fatigue.

Anxiety, irritability, or feeling constantly on edge.

Less enjoyment outside of work.

Feeling like everything takes more effort than it used to.

Burnout does not always look like falling apart. Sometimes, it looks like continuing to perform while quietly running on empty.

At PsychSolutions, we support professionals and executives who want to understand what is happening and find a more sustainable way forward.

Depending on your needs, support may include CBT, EMDR, CBT for Insomnia, couples or family therapy, and, when clinically appropriate, rTMS and ExoMindβ„’.

Trauma can affect you long after the experience is over. πŸ’š

Sometimes, trauma shows up in ways that are difficult to understand.

You may experience:

βœ” Intrusive memories, nightmares, or unwanted thoughts.

βœ” Avoiding places, conversations, or situations that bring up painful reminders.

βœ” Difficulty sleeping or feeling constantly on edge.

βœ” Physical tension, a racing heart, or an exaggerated startle response.

βœ” Emotional numbness or feeling disconnected.

βœ” Irritability, shame, guilt, or difficulty trusting others.

Trauma does not always look the same for everyone.

You may know exactly what happened, or you may simply notice that certain experiences continue to affect how safe, connected, or steady you feel.

You also do not need to have a PTSD diagnosis to benefit from trauma informed therapy.

Support may be helpful after a single traumatic event, repeated stress, childhood adversity, injury, loss, medical experiences, or other experiences that have had a lasting impact.

At PsychSolutions, trauma therapy is individualized and paced around your needs.

Treatment may include:

🧠 EMDR therapy.

πŸ’ Cognitive Behavioural Therapy.

🌿 Grounding and body based strategies.

πŸ’š Acceptance and Commitment Therapy.

Therapy may begin with stabilization, coping strategies, and building a sense of safety before moving toward deeper processing.

You do not have to share everything right away.

You do not have to be ready to talk about every detail.

You can begin where you are.

πŸ’š Healing does not mean pretending the past did not happen. It means working toward a life where the past has less control over your present.

What is EMDR therapy? πŸ§ πŸ’š

EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing.

It is a structured, evidence based therapy that can help people process distressing experiences and memories that continue to affect their thoughts, emotions, body, or daily life.

EMDR does not require you to tell every detail of a painful experience. Instead, your therapist helps you move through a structured process using bilateral stimulation, such as guided eye movements, tapping, or sounds.

EMDR therapy typically includes:

βœ” Understanding your history and treatment goals.

βœ” Building safety and coping skills.

βœ” Identifying memories and beliefs connected to distress.

βœ” Processing distressing memories at a pace that feels manageable.

βœ” Strengthening more helpful beliefs about yourself.

βœ” Noticing and addressing remaining physical tension.

βœ” Ending sessions with grounding and emotional stability.

βœ” Checking in on progress and planning the next steps.

EMDR is not about erasing the past.

It is about helping painful experiences feel more like they belong in the past, so they have less control over your present.

EMDR may be helpful for people experiencing trauma, PTSD, anxiety, grief and loss, phobias, or negative beliefs about themselves connected to past experiences.

It is important to remember that EMDR is not a one size fits all treatment. A qualified therapist will assess whether it is appropriate for you and help determine the right pace.

You are always in control of your therapy.

πŸ’š You do not have to be ready to talk about everything.

Healing can begin with simply understanding what you are experiencing and exploring whether support may be helpful.

Caregivers need care too. πŸ’š

Caring for a loved one can be one of the most meaningful things you do.

It can also be exhausting.

Caregiving may involve managing appointments, providing emotional support, helping with daily tasks, making difficult decisions, and constantly worrying about what might happen next.

Over time, caregivers may experience:

βœ” Physical and emotional exhaustion.

βœ” Anxiety and constant worry.

βœ” Feelings of isolation.

βœ” Guilt about not doing enough.

βœ” Frustration or resentment, followed by guilt for feeling that way.

βœ” Grief about changes in a relationship or the future you once imagined.

βœ” Feeling like you have lost touch with who you are outside of your caregiving role.

These feelings do not mean you do not love the person you care for.

They mean you are human.

Caregiver counselling can provide a safe, non judgmental space to talk honestly about what you are experiencing. Therapy may help you process difficult emotions, develop coping strategies, establish healthy boundaries, manage guilt, and reconnect with your own needs and identity.

Support may include individual therapy, group support, and evidence based approaches such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy.

You do not have to wait until you are completely overwhelmed before seeking support.

Taking care of your own mental health is not selfish.

It is part of creating a sustainable way to care for others while also caring for yourself.

πŸ’š The person you care for matters. So do you.

πŸ“ž Contact PsychSolutions to learn more about caregiver counselling in Edmonton. Virtual therapy options may also be available.

Your first therapy session does not have to be perfect. πŸ’š

You do not need to know exactly what to say.

You do not need to have your entire life story organized.

You do not need to know exactly what is wrong.

Your first therapy session is often an opportunity to begin getting to know your therapist, talk about what has brought you to therapy, and start exploring what kind of support may be helpful.

During your first session, you may discuss:

βœ” What has been happening in your life.

βœ” What concerns have brought you to therapy.

βœ” How you have been feeling and coping.

βœ” What you would like to work toward.

βœ” Questions you have about therapy and the treatment process.

It is also okay to say:

πŸ—£οΈ "I don't know where to start."

πŸ—£οΈ "I'm nervous about being here."

πŸ—£οΈ "I don't know how to explain what I'm feeling."

πŸ—£οΈ "I don't know what I need yet."

Your therapist does not expect you to have everything figured out. Therapy is a collaborative process, and you can work together to understand what is happening and identify meaningful goals.

You also do not have to share everything in your first session. You are allowed to take your time and talk about what feels important and relevant to you.

Before your appointment, it may help to write down a few concerns or thoughts you would like to remember. However, there is no need to prepare a perfect explanation.

Come as you are.

The first step does not have to be about solving everything.

Sometimes, it is simply about beginning the conversation.

πŸ’š At PsychSolutions, we offer compassionate, evidence based psychological care tailored to your needs.

Chronic pain affects more than the body. It can impact your mood, relationships, sleep, confidence, and ability to participate in the activities that matter most.

When pain continues for months or longer, many people find themselves adjusting their routines, withdrawing from activities they enjoy, and feeling frustrated by the ongoing challenges they face.

It is important to remember that chronic pain is real. While emotional stress, anxiety, and low mood can influence how pain is experienced, this does not mean the pain is β€œjust psychological.” Chronic pain involves complex interactions between the body, nervous system, thoughts, emotions, and daily experiences.

Psychological support can be an important part of chronic pain care by helping individuals:

β€’ Develop healthier coping strategies
β€’ Manage stress, anxiety, and emotional exhaustion
β€’ Adjust to changes in daily life
β€’ Rebuild confidence and connection
β€’ Improve overall quality of life

Therapy is not about dismissing physical symptoms. It is about supporting the whole person and helping individuals feel more empowered while navigating their healing journey.

If chronic pain has been affecting your emotional well being, relationships, or daily functioning, support is available.

What is EMDR therapy? πŸ§ πŸ’š

EMDR, or Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, is an evidence based psychotherapy approach that can help people process distressing memories and experiences that continue to affect their present lives.

When the brain becomes overwhelmed by a traumatic or highly stressful experience, the memory may continue to feel emotionally present long after the event has ended.

EMDR uses a structured process and bilateral stimulation, such as guided eye movements, alternating sounds, or rhythmic tapping, to support the processing of distressing memories.

EMDR therapy may help:

βœ” Reduce the emotional intensity of distressing memories.

βœ” Reduce the vividness of painful memories.

βœ” Shift negative beliefs about yourself.

βœ” Process emotional and physical responses connected to past experiences.

βœ” Develop more adaptive and helpful beliefs.

EMDR is not a quick fix, and it is not a one size fits all treatment.

The therapy follows an eight phase framework that includes understanding your history, developing coping strategies, identifying treatment targets, processing distressing experiences, strengthening more adaptive beliefs, noticing physical responses, stabilizing at the end of sessions, and reviewing progress over time.

You also do not have to describe every detail of a traumatic experience for EMDR therapy to be helpful.

Your therapist will work collaboratively with you and respect your pace and readiness.

EMDR may be used to support treatment for concerns such as trauma, PTSD, anxiety, depression, grief and loss, phobias, performance anxiety, and some chronic pain experiences connected with emotional distress.

πŸ’š EMDR is not about erasing the past. It is about helping the past have less control over your present.

At PsychSolutions, we provide individualized EMDR therapy grounded in evidence based care, safety, and collaboration.

🧠 **Did you know your brain is capable of changing throughout your life?**

This remarkable ability is called **neuroplasticity**, and it's one of the reasons healing is possible.

Neuroplasticity is your brain's ability to create new neural pathways, strengthen healthy patterns, and adapt in response to learning and experience. It's how we learn new skills, recover after challenges, and develop healthier ways of thinking, feeling, and responding.

This is also why evidence based treatments can create lasting change.

πŸ’™ **EMDR therapy** helps the brain process distressing or traumatic memories that may be keeping your nervous system stuck in patterns of fear, anxiety, or emotional overwhelm.

🧠 **ExoMind rTMS** uses targeted neuromodulation to stimulate areas of the brain involved in emotional regulation, attention, decision making, and mood. By supporting neuroplasticity, rTMS may help improve the brain's ability to form healthier neural connections and enhance your capacity to engage in everyday life and therapy.

When appropriate, combining psychological therapy with brain based treatments may help some individuals regulate emotions more effectively, think more clearly, and move toward their goals with greater confidence.

Healing isn't about becoming someone different. It's about helping your brain build healthier pathways so you can become more fully yourself.

If you're feeling emotionally stuck, overwhelmed, or finding it difficult to move forward despite your best efforts, evidence based treatments may be able to help.
