Earth Tracks
Earth Tracks is dedicated to helping people Re-Connect to the Natural World We invite you to come and join us on this journey.
Earth Tracks Outdoor School specializes in Nature Education and Wilderness Canoe Trips. Our programs range from multi-day naturalist-led wilderness canoe trips to earth skills programs and workshops for people of all ages and experience levels. We cover a wide variety of topics related to naturalist/tracking studies and wilderness skills development that help to foster a deep connection to the Earth. We strive to blend ancient and modern wisdom through our teaching style and view nature as the ultimate teacher. Our classes and trips are small and very focused, providing quality education and practical field experience. Both the curious beginner and seasoned outdoors person will benefit from our programs and we are equally committed to both. We have classes suitable for adults as well as children and strive to create a strong mentoring experience for all participants. By learning from Nature through immersion and direct experience we begin to see and link the complexities and inter-relatedness of all things in the natural world. We also begin to see the important role that we all can play in protecting and preserving these things for the future generations. As we progress through this journey we move closer to walking the path of our Vision and living a life of balance and meaning, developing a deep sense of connection to the world around us. At Earth Tracks we help to guide people in learning how to live a life in close relationship to the earth through quality education, mentoring and direct experience. "The Earth is the ultimate provider and for countless generations our ancestors knew how to survive and live in harmony with nature. By learning and practicing these skills we begin to experience nature in an ancient and meaningful way."

More California Love. Living my best tracking life on the west coast. Beautiful Grandmother Pacific Ocean πππβ€οΈπ
We watched this black bear for almost an hour as it fed on acorns in a few different trees.
We would have never found it if we hadn't been practicing our trailing skills here in California at the Tracker Gathering. It was amazing to witness this bear so close with a great small group of people.
Always grateful for these animals and the way that practicing tracking and awareness has impacted my life in such a deep and powerful way π

A few weeks ago we gathered for the first weekend of the Earth Tracks Wild Plants Apprenticeship.

We wandered through old cedar and hemlock forests, compared Dutchman's Breeches and Squirrel Corn, discussed ethical harvesting practices, and drank pure spring water fresh from the ground.
Along the way we encountered many spring ephemeral wildflowers including wild ginger, bellwort, trout lily, Carolina spring beauty, blue cohosh, jack-in-the-pulpit, trilliums, violets, wild coffee, and many others.
We also harvested black cherry bark and learned how it has traditionally been used in herbal medicine to support the respiratory system and in the making of cough syrups.
One of the things I enjoy most about teaching plants is watching people begin to see the landscape differently.
Plants that were once overlooked suddenly become familiar neighbors.
A patch of stinging nettle becomes food and medicine.
A violet becomes more than just a flower.
The forest floor becomes filled with stories, relationships, and possibilities.
Our second apprenticeship weekend is coming up in just a few days, and there is still time to join us.
Over the coming months we'll be exploring edible and medicinal plants, ethical harvesting, stewardship, herbal medicine, basketry, cordage making, bushcraft skills, root medicines, and much more.
We currently have five participants in the program and room for a few more people.
After this upcoming weekend, registration will close for the year.
If you've been considering learning more about plants, herbal medicine, stewardship, and developing a deeper relationship with the land, I'd love to hear from you.

I love tracking the weather. It's another form of tracking and awareness. I have been watching this storm move from west to east to the north of us all day. Later tonight another couple of bands are going to come in and cover us from the West off of Lake Huron.
It makes me think of being with my dad, brothers and friends at our farm over 24 years ago watching the big sky as we planted the garden. Grateful for this new place, my older brother, the views, the storms, the forest and the beautiful power of nature. Grateful for this life and all the opportunity that it gives us. And my dad's spirit who watches over us. Much love everybody.βοΈπβ€οΈπβοΈβ‘οΈπ©
Hanging on Kootenay Lake today with my old tracking friends and thier kids after an epic week of wildlife tracking certifications.
It feels like coming full circle after living here 26 years ago. And 21 years of running .
As sweet as it is, I am really looking forward to coming home next week and hugging my kids. Our children are OUR future. And I'm really looking forward to this next stage of my life as a single father/coparent.
I trust in Spirit to guide me on this next stage of the journey.
Much Gratitude for this life π
A little stroll across a log in an old growth cedar/hemlock forest. My wish for the future is that the trees can thrive and grow old once again. And .modern western humans could see the value in these old growth forests and the healthy ecosystems that they nurture and represent. A healthy forest provides so much more than money ever could. Let's learn to be caretakers of the earth once again ππ
Grizzly Bear Tracks! We found the sweetest trail yesterday of a big Grizzly walking down the edge of the road in an over-step walk. There were also tracks from moose, elk and deer in this spot beside the river. I'm very grateful to be in a place where these animals roam freely. It is a good life and I'm thankful for all my teachers and mentors in the art and science of tracking. ππ£
What a incredible day in the homelands of the Sinixt (Lakes) people. Now known as part of the West Kootenays region of BC.
So many memories flood back to me when I revisit these places. They played such a pivotal role in my journey as a young man between the ages of 18-22.
We had a great day scouting and tracking through this valley between the Purcell and Selkirk mountains.
I'm feeling especially ALIVE today. These days make me a better human, a better man, a better father and a better caretaker of this earth.
We only get one shot at this. Make it count. Our Ancestors are counting on us. Let's move towards a better future. π
