Drums and percussion instruments are one of the oldest musical instruments in the world, and there history is incredibly interesting. My latest article for the Cowichan Valley voice.
Things have been unusual quiet at Chops for the these last few months, but as always, many new things are in this works.
I also have been mulling over the thought of reopening for June, the last month of this teaching season, but have decided to hold off. My priority is the health and safety of my students, their families ,my family and our community, and to ensure the government public health guidelines are being correctly followed.
For these reasons I have decided to remain closed until the start of the new teaching season in September.
If you have any questions about Chops and our weekly lessons, or drumming in general, please don’t hesitate to connect with me.
Stay safe everyone,
Thanks, Paul Jutras.

I’ve read and heard many thoughts of how easy it is to play drums. A few favourites are, “ if a melodic instrument is too hard, just play the drums” and “after learning your first beat...you’re a drummer”.
In my latest Cowichan Valley Voice article, I outline some key attributes of a drummer.
Happy reading!!

To keep on top of things and take a proactive approach, I will be continuing to postpone lessons. I have the best students any drum teacher could hope for, and I will do what I can to help it stay that way.
Take care of each other and play safe.

This is your brain on drums.
The Neuroscience of Drumming: Researchers Discover the Secrets of Drumming & The Human Brain An old musician’s joke goes “there are three kinds of drummers in the world—those who can count and those who can’t.” But perhaps there is an even more global divide. Perhaps there are three kinds of people in the world—those who can drum and those who can’t.
