💜 Every Older Adult Deserves to Age with Dignity and Respect 💜

As we approach World Elder Abuse Awareness Day on June 15, we’re helping raise awareness about an issue that affects older adults in communities across Canada and around the world.

This year marks the 20th anniversary of World Elder Abuse Awareness Day.

Elder abuse isn’t always easy to recognize.

Some warning signs may include:
• Unexplained changes in finances
• Sudden social withdrawal
• Poor hygiene or unmet care needs
• Fearfulness around certain individuals
• Unexplained injuries or changes in behaviour

Many cases go unreported, which is why awareness and education are so important.

If you are concerned about an older adult, support and information are available.

Over the coming week, we’ll be sharing information and resources leading up to June 15 to help promote the dignity, safety, and well-being of older adults.

Caregivers Need Care Too

Caring for a loved one can be one of the most meaningful roles we take on. It can also be physically, emotionally, and mentally demanding.

Many family caregivers spend so much time focusing on the needs of others that they rarely stop to consider their own wellbeing.

Most do not think of themselves as caregivers. They are simply a daughter helping her mother, a husband supporting his wife, a son driving his father to appointments, or a friend checking in.

Over time, those responsibilities can grow. Appointments, meals, medication reminders, household tasks, decision-making, and the emotional weight of wanting the very best for someone you love can become overwhelming.

Signs of caregiver burnout may include:

▪ Feeling constantly tired or overwhelmed
▪ Difficulty sleeping
▪ Increased stress or anxiety
▪ Loss of interest in activities you once enjoyed
▪ Feeling isolated or disconnected
▪ Changes in your own health and wellbeing

Caregiver burnout often develops gradually, making it easy to miss.

Taking time to rest, ask for help, or access available support is an important part of caregiving. Looking after your own health and wellbeing allows you to continue supporting the people who depend on you.

Sometimes the most important question is not, "How is Mom doing?"

It's, "How are you doing?"

What do you do to take care of yourself while caring for others?

When Is It Time to Talk About Support at Home? 🏡

Many families wait until a health event, fall, hospital stay, or emergency forces them to make decisions about care. But some of the best care plans begin long before a crisis occurs.

You may have noticed changes in a loved one. Perhaps daily tasks are becoming more difficult, meals are being skipped, mobility is changing, or there is increasing isolation and loneliness. Often, family members know something needs to change but aren’t sure how to bring it up.

These conversations can feel emotional, uncomfortable, and sometimes overwhelming. It’s normal to worry about how a loved one will respond or whether they will accept support.

The good news is that support at home can take many forms. It may be companionship, help with meals, transportation to appointments, respite care, or assistance with daily tasks. The right support looks different for every individual and family.

Having these conversations early allows families to explore options, ask questions, and make informed decisions together.

At enABell Health, we’re here to help families navigate these conversations with compassion, experience, and personalized guidance. Whether you’re exploring support now or simply planning for the future, we’re here to help.

💙 Celebrating BC Seniors’ Week 2026 💙

June 1-7 is BC Seniors’ Week, a time to recognize and celebrate the older adults who have helped shape our families, communities, and province.

This year’s theme, “Experience Matters,” reminds us that the knowledge, resilience, and life experiences of seniors enrich our communities every day.

At enABell Health, we are proud to support seniors in maintaining their independence, dignity, and quality of life at home. We believe that every individual deserves care that respects their unique journey and supports them in living life on their own terms.

This week, take a moment to connect with a senior in your life. A phone call, visit, shared meal, or meaningful conversation can make a lasting difference.

Thank you to all seniors for your contributions, wisdom, and the experiences that continue to inspire us. 💙

Happy BC Seniors’ Week!

💙 Access to Therapy: Making Mental Health Support More Accessible

Everyone deserves access to mental health care, regardless of income or circumstance.

Access to Therapy is a community-focused initiative working to remove financial barriers to counselling and psychotherapy. Their goal is to ensure that individuals who are low-income or facing marginalization can still receive the support they need.

Through a network of qualified practitioners, they help connect people to therapy for concerns such as anxiety, depression, trauma, and relationship challenges. Support is available both virtually and in person, helping make care more flexible and accessible.

What makes this initiative especially meaningful is that donations go directly toward helping individuals access therapy and counselling services.

💙 Small contributions can help make a real difference in someone’s healing journey.

If you would like to learn more or support their work, visit: https://www.accesstotherapy.org/

Because mental health care should be accessible to everyone.

💙 Did you know small safety changes at home can help seniors maintain independence for longer?

Simple adjustments like removing loose rugs, improving lighting, installing grab bars, and keeping walkways clear can significantly reduce the risk of falls and injuries. A safer home environment not only protects physical health, it also helps seniors feel more confident, comfortable, and supported in their daily routines.

Aging in place allows individuals to remain in familiar surroundings while continuing to receive the right level of support to live safely and independently.

Sometimes the smallest changes can make the biggest difference.

The future of care is home.

At Enabell Health, we believe in supporting independence through compassionate, person-centred care that helps seniors stay safe and comfortable where they feel most at home.
