“But why? ...But why? ...But why?”
If you’ve ever spent time around a young child, you know this relentless loop well.
Children are natural investigators because they aren’t satisfied with surface-level answers.
But somewhere along the way to adulthood, many of us stop asking “why.” We replace curiosity with assumptions.
In the pet world, we see a challenging behaviour and immediately focus on the “what”:
“The cat is peeing on the rug.”
“The cat is pacing around the house.”
But if we stop at the “what,” we fail the animal. We have to reclaim that relentless curiosity and look for the underlying reality.
The What: A cat completely abandons the litter box.
But why? Because it hurts to eliminate.
But why? Because they have active, unmanaged gastrointestinal distress like Feline IBD.
When we stop asking why, we end up trying to train away pain, modify a symptom, or blame a psychological trigger that isn’t actually there.
Behaviour is communication across the board for all species. But truly listening means refusing to stop at the surface. It means looking deeper than what we can see and asking “but why?” until we uncover the actual root cause.
When did you stop asking why? Let’s start asking it again.

IT’S MY BIRTHDAY WEEK! (And the kitties get the gifts)
My birthday is this Thursday, June 18th, but instead of unwrapping presents, I want to celebrate by spoiling some amazing cats.
If your kitty shares a birthday/adoption month with me, this is your time to shine.
The Birthday Giveaway
I am giving away two prizes to celebrate:
Grand Prize: One free behaviour consultation, tailored specifically to your cat’s behavior of concern.
Runner-Up: One behaviour consultation at 50% off, tailored specifically to your cat’s behavior of concern.

To enter, you just need to do two things:
1. Prove your cat was either born in June or adopted in June. Since you cannot drop photos in Instagram comments, you must send a DM with proof of their June birthday or adoption day.
This could be a photo of an adoption certificate, a vet record, or official rescue paperwork. I want to see those receipts.
2. Leave a comment on this post letting me know you sent your DM, and share this post to your stories so other June kitties can join the party.
Make sure you are following to be eligible.
Deadlines & Winners

Let’s celebrate the June babies and their adoption days. Head over to my DMs with your receipts to enter.
Note: recent veterinarian checkup records may be required.
The Secret behind Feline Physics
⚠️ IMPORTANT FIRST: A cat’s “righting reflex” is an incredible biological mechanism, but it is not a stunt. Never drop or test your cat’s balance, falls can cause severe injuries, and senior kitties especially need our help staying safely grounded!
Now, ever watch your cat execute a flawless landing from a high perch and think, “How?!” It’s not magic, it’s peak feline science. Here is why our cats are basically furry superheroes:
Upgraded Paw-Dars: Their paw pads are packed with sensitive nerve endings that beam real-time data to the brain for micro-balance adjustments.
The Built-In Rudder: That tail isn’t just for twitching when they’re annoyed; it works as a perfect counterbalance on narrow ledges.
No Rigid Collarbone: Missing a rigid collarbone allows their shoulders to move freely and lets them step perfectly in line.
The Righting Reflex: A built-in inner ear sensor detects “up” mid-air, while a flexible spine lets them twist the front and back of their bodies separately to stick the landing.
The Golden Years: As cats age, this masterful balance can decline. If you notice your senior kitty getting a bit wobbly or hesitating before jumps, it might be time to add some pet stairs or ramps to keep them safe and comfortable.

Think your cat was always pampered royalty? Think again!
Our bond with cats goes way deeper than ancient Egypt. It actually started over 9,000 years ago as a wild partnership: they handled the mice, and we provided the habitat.
For nearly all of that history, environmental pressures, not human breeding, shaped the unique cats we know today. In fact, while the domestic cat has been evolving alongside us for millennia, the entire concept of a “purebred cat” is a tiny blip in time, only about 150 years old!
Even more fascinating? Adapting to live closer to us literally rewired their genetics to make them a social species, causing adult cats to retain their affectionate, playful “kitten” traits for life.

Now that I’ve got your attention…
It’s terrifying when a cat bolts outside. If your cat is a habitual door-darter, it usually points to a lack of environmental stimulation inside, or a strong instinctual drive to explore.
You don’t have to live in fear of the front door! Let’s address the root cause and set up management protocols to keep them safe. Send me an email: [email protected] to book a consultation before an accidental escape happens.

Did you know that up to 40% of ALL cats suffer from osteoarthritis?
Yet, global data shows that only about 13% of those affected cats are actually diagnosed by veterinarians. Why the massive gap? Because cats are masters at masking discomfort.
Instead of limping, they show us they are hurting through subtle shifts in their daily routines, habits, or behaviour.
Spotting these changes early is key to keeping our feline companions comfortable and thriving. Check out the stats in the graphic, and talk to your vet if you notice your cat slowing down!

5 Steps to Positive Kitten Behaviour
Kittens aren’t trying to be “bad” they are just little babies constantly exploring and learning about a brand-new world! As a Feline Behaviour Coach, I always emphasize that patience, consistency, and clear guidance are the keys to nurturing a happy home.
Here are 5 simple ways to guide your kitten’s growth effectively:
1. Understand Their World: Kittens learn through their experiences. When we understand that their actions come from curiosity or unmet needs, we can guide them with empathy rather than frustration.
2. Redirect with Care:
Scratching is a natural necessity to keep claws healthy. Provide desirable surfaces like corrugated cardboard or sturdy posts, use a little catnip to make them attractive, and trim those needle-sharp claws regularly. Never declaw!
3. Encourage Desirable Actions: Focus on rewarding the good stuff! Use clear cues, rewards, and positive reinforcement to let your kitten know exactly what behaviours you want to see more of.
4. Prioritize Interactive Play: Keep your kitten moving with daily interactive play sessions, toys, and puzzles. This burns off excess energy and provides vital mental stimulation.
5. Build Predictable Routines: Prevent nighttime activity by scheduling structured evening play sessions followed by a larger meal right before bedtime. This helps establish a calm, predictable routine for the whole house.

Signs Your Cat Actually Owns Your Home (and You’re Just the Live-In Landlord)
Let’s be completely honest for a second. We like to use words like “guardian” or “owner,” but the minute a cat crosses your threshold, the deed to the house magically changes names.
If you’ve ever looked at your life and realized a 9-pound animal with no job calls all the shots, you are definitely not alone. Here are the undeniable signs that your cat is the undisputed head of your household:
The Food Thief: He doesn’t beg for food. Begging is for amateurs. He simply saunters up, locks eyes, and takes whatever you are currently chewing. Your permission is completely optional.
The Interior Designer: RIP to your carefully curated aesthetic. Your living room is no longer a cozy space for guests; it’s a high-velocity kitty jungle gym. Scratching posts are the new statement furniture, and your couch permanently wears a slipcover.
The Underfoot Cleaning Hazard: There is a literal law written into the feline universe that states: The second the litter scoop touches the plastic, thy feline must immediately deposit a fresh, steaming presentation. It’s a compliment, really. They just like to use the VIP facilities while the janitorial staff is on-site.
The Midnight Toe Monster: Sleeping with your feet exposed is a high-stakes extreme sport. You think you’re getting a nice, peaceful REM cycle, and suddenly your foot is a high-value target for a 3:00 AM pounce.
The Auto-Delivery Kingpin:
Your own grocery list is mostly instant coffee and existential dread, but “His Royal Highness” has premium catnip, organic treats, and interactive toys on a strict, unbreakable Amazon subscription. Miss a delivery date? Expect formal complaints.
But honestly... would we even want it any other way?
