Washing your hands is very important, but proper bathroom layout is “more importanter”.

Snow is accumulating out there. It is extremely important to ensure that any vents are free from obstructions. The metal sidewall vent pictured is for an oil fired heating system, but they are also sometimes used for other heating appliances such as propane or pellet stoves.

If you have a box that looks like the one pictured below, go outside immediately to clear any accumulated snow away from it.

Do you have a hot water heating system with heat pumps as a secondary heat source? If yes, this is for you.

During cold weather events with high winds, drafts can occur within your walls, where your heating pipes are located. If you are using your heat pumps as a primary heat source, your pipes will be at an extremely increased risk of freezing.

It is strongly recommended that you turn your heat pumps off during these times, and use your hot water heating system to prevent pipes from freezing.

Spending a few extra dollars on heat is a very small price to pay versus dealing with frozen pipes and flooding.
