I'm so excited to announce a new jam starting this fall for fiddlers (and other acoustic instrumentalists) of all ages and levels!

Welcome to Fiddlejelly! We're an introductory jam group and a feeder program to the larger group Fiddlejam, who meet biweekly on Tuesdays.

Fiddlejelly meets on Wednesdays from 6:15-7pm, at St George's church, down the ramp and through the double doors. Start date TBD. All acoustic instrumentalists are welcome to join. $2 individual drop-in or $5 family fee per session.

This group is open to all ages and levels (even those with no experience playing fiddle music!), and is specifically geared towards welcoming kids to the fiddle community here in the Comox Valley.

With the goal of continuing the aural tradition of fiddling, attendants can obtain sheet music but are encouraged to leave the dots at home and immerse themselves in the fiddle experience.

The Suzuki method is like language learning - through daily exposure, practice, and parental support, children learn to play beautiful music from a young age. Children and their parents/trusted adults are expected to work closely with one another, developing a strong working relationship and fostering life skills throughout the process.

After ten years of teaching, five in the Comox Valley, and countless hours of joy in working with children of all ages, it's time for a change - I'm pleased to announce that the Medley Music studio is now Sprouting Strings.

When I first started my studio, I'll be honest... I just needed a name to slap on some business cards! And the similarity to other local musicians didn't matter because I wasn't local - yet.

Now, I'm in a place I love and I have a name that I love, a name that encapsulates the work I'm proud of - working with wee budding musicians, and some that are growing too fast for my liking!

Fall is just around the corner! A few lesson spots have opened up and I’m so excited to work with some new students and the beloved Suzuki method. Using the same techniques we use to learn our first language, Suzuki students build life skills alongside musical ones with the support of the people closest to them. I’m so pleased to be able to say there is now a string orchestra in the Comox Valley targeted towards beginners of all ages!

Helena Jung is the mastermind behind it all, conductor of the Strathcona Symphony Orchestra, cellist, violinist, and wonderful human being.
