Cold days call for the warmest toques, and these chunky, double brimmed Peruvian Highland Wool beanies are just about as warm and cozy as they come. π₯° Peruvian Highland Wool is a high-quality, durable 100% natural wool sourced from sheep (a Merino and Corriedale cross) raised in the high-altitude Andes of Peru. It is renowned for its unique rustic combination of softness (from the Merino) and strength (from the Corriedale).
This luxury wool is breathable with excellent water-resistance, making it perfect for our wet West Coast winters. Add to that a timeless style with a folded brim that allows you to customize it for the perfect fit, and this may very well become your new favorite toque! Poms can be added by request. Message me for more info. π

Hello winter! βοΈ We finally had a snow day, though it was of the blink-and-you-might-miss-it variety!
My son is desperately hoping for the gift of more snow for upcoming birthday this week, but I am not sure Mother Nature is on our side this year. Fingers crossed we can drag winter out just a little bit longer!π€
I have added some new ready-to-ship knits to my website. For those of you who are still deep in the midst of winter (like the rest of Canada!) we offer flat rate shipping of $15 across the country. π

Hello! π
Happy new year! I've been in social media hibernation mode after a busy holiday market season, but there is always a lot going on behind the scenes in the Back 40.
Winter on the West Coast has been unusually mild, but our current cold snap has me hopeful that we haven't seen the end of winter yet and we will still get that elusive dump of snow! In the meantime, we will settle for frost and frozen mud - which, if you live on a farm or have livestock, you know is a treat after a very wet fall!
I've got a stack of cozy new knits to add to my website in the next few days and am looking forward to introducing some fun new things in 2026! Thanks for following along. π₯°
Check out my stories to see what has been keeping us busy on the farm the past couple of weeks! π

Sneak Peek of an extra big, extra cozy, infinity scarf I just sent off to its new home in Eastern Canada (where they really need this sort of thing right now! π₯Ά) This was just part of a large order of matching family knits and I can't wait to share the rest of these gorgeous sets after Christmas! π₯°
Which leads me to custom order deadlines! The last week got away from me and I neglected to post cutoff dates earlier, but the deadline for custom orders (with local Comox Valley pickup before Christmas only at this point) is Wednesday, December 17. Classic Line orders can be made directly on my website or message me for Luxe orders.
And there are still some beautiful knit toques, cowls and mittens that are ready to go at www.back40designs.ca. I am shipping daily, so if you are ordering with shipping required get those orders in ASAP for delivery by Christmas. I can't guarantee delivery at this point given the flooding situation in BC and surrounding area, but will do my best to get things sent away quickly!
Ready-to-Ship items with Local Pickup can be ordered right up until December 23. π
Yarn is Malabrigo Rasta in the color Diana.

Mittens have been a hot item this season. Hand knit with breathable, ultra soft and moisture-resistant fine merino wool, it's easy to see why. No lining needed for these mitts - they will keep your fingers warm and toasty all winter long. I am down to two pairs, including this new addition in the most popular shade of the year, green. ππ
These are not yet listed online but you can find them this Sunday at my final market of the year. I will be at the Christmas Pop Up Market hosted by the Blackfin Pub on November 14th from 11am to 3pm in the lower level of the Blackfin in Comox. Drop by to check out the all-local vendor lineup and then head upstairs for lunch or dinner! See you Sunday!
