Who knew I would be building a new PC during the RAMpocalypse. The only used part is the graphics card.

Reused photo but using it to make a point. With the current market pricing on memory chips used on RAM and SSDs driving prices out of control has left me in a position I can not take part of.

I will be taking a step back away from any build and repairs that require RAM or storage upgrades. Graphics cards will be joining soon as well as they are expected to increase in price soon as well.

If you are wanting those things and you have deep pockets then by all means feel free to do so. I just can't justify spending an amount on RAM and storage that is on par with or more than graphics cards and CPUs.

Hopefully in the next year pricing will come down (even by half), but currently it doesn't look like it.

If you or someone you know is currently thinking about or wanting to build a new computer or even just upgrade their RAM. They should hold off and wait. We are currently in a shortage globally as memory chip manufacturers have prioritized chips that are needed for all of the AI and data centers currently being developed or upgraded. It may be a few months before this calms down.

In the last month, I have seen prices of 32GB kits that I normally price out at $125-140 jump to $270-320. This huge price jump can effect the specs of the rest of the build to try and fit a budget.

PSA to watch out for scams like this. Social engineered attacks are the most current way people try to trick you into entering your information. Always check things like the email address of who sent it (in this case it was a gmail account) and look at the actual URL of where the link is taking you (this one was definitely not a Shaw website).

I am selling my RTX 3090 graphics card and 1000w power supply. I am asking $950 for the 3090 and $150 for the 1000w power supply. If you reach out to me on here to buy them, then the 3090 is $800, and the power supply for $120.

Just a reminder for everyone out there to watch out for scam emails. To also watch out for scam calls as well. They are getting better and better at their social engineering attacks. With voice changing software or AI voice that sounds like someone you know. I have had an influx of customers that need their hardware purged due to falling for it. They are always improving on their tactics.

Sometimes, I set up the out-of-box so that you don't have to. Having it all set up and extra software installed and ready to go is where it's at.

Not all computers need to be new to start out on. This is going to a young boy wanting to play online with his dad. It has room to grow (upgrade) down the line without having to replace every component at the same time.

This return customer has had their water cooled PC come into my shop for repais over the years. We finally made the move to a larger case that removes the CPU as part of the loop. The radiator was not capable of keeping up with both. With any luck, it will not need to have any major work done until they are ready to upgrade the graphics card to get away from water cooling altogether.
