Our community partner the Foundry Comox Valley is putting on an event for youth (15-24) experiencing disabilities and/or chronic illness on Friday afternoons for the next 4 weeks, starting this week! Join Siskin and peers to find solidarity in your experiences with disabilities and to learn about disability justice!
Hello Comox Valley and neighbouring communities!! Wachiay has a new Community Law Advocate (CLA), yes me, Robert Pritchard! I am more than thrilled to be providing CLA services to all those in need in the Valley and surrounding area, on the unceded traditional territories of the K'ómoks First Nation. However, because of the onboarding training process, we are experiencing SIGNIFICANT delays in providing these services at this time. Urgent cases, including unlawful evictions, are being prioritized and will be serviced through a triage process, but many other services can be expected to be delayed until January, possibly February.
We are also very excited to have a new Government Benefits Advocate, Amelia Ack, join our team! Amelia is also undergoing onboard training, but is now working hard to serve those on our backlogged intake list. While these services are being provided, please also expect delays as we try our very best to catch up to the demand.
Thank you all for your patience and continued trust in the Community Law Advocacy team here at Wachiay Friendship Centre!
