Whether managing a tactical casualty, navigating high-angle rope systems, or executing complex mission mechanics, true operational mastery follows a precise, four-stage progression:

1. Unconscious Incompetence: A total lack of awareness regarding critical skill deficiencies, creating significant vulnerability under pressure.

2. Conscious Incompetence: Identifying exactly where knowledge or performance fails. This stage demands the stress of rigorous training to overcome.

3. Conscious Competence: The ability to perform the skill successfully, but only through intense, concentrated cognitive focus and mental effort.

4. Unconscious Competence: The mechanics disappear into muscle memory. The skill becomes pure second nature, allowing operators to fully shift focus toward controlling the chaos around them.

CTOMS Academy delivers self-paced tactical medical and trauma management training straight to your screen. Our online curriculum bypasses checklist formulas to build deep, fluid, decision-driven field competence.

✨Task Update ✨

This afternoon, PenSAR was called out to assist with an injured dirt biker in the backcountry.

Our helicopter team responded quickly, with ground teams standing by and ready to deploy if needed.

Following a successful land and load extraction, the subject was safely transferred into the care of BCEHS.

A big thank you to Eclipse Helicopters, and BCEHS for the teamwork and support that helped make for a successful outcome.

Another great example of agencies working together when every minute counts.
