With a heavy heart, I read and hear of the tragedy that has occurred in Tumbler Ridge. Having worked in the area for many years, this loss feels deeply personal, and my thoughts are with the people and community who are now facing an unimaginable reality.

I hope you are okay—though I understand that after something like this, life is never quite the same. To those who are injured, I wish you strength and a full, speedy recovery. To the families and loved ones who are grieving, there are truly no words that can ease the pain of such an unfair loss.

To the person who chose to bring harm to a strong and caring community and then end his own life, I can only hope that, in the wake of this tragedy, we learn the importance of reaching out and having honest conversations. My hope is not to hold anger, but to encourage openness—so that those who feel lost or certain they are alone find the courage to speak before it ever comes to this again.

My deepest condolences to the people of Tumbler Ridge and to everyone whose lives have been forever changed.

There comes a time when something becomes not just a privilege, but an opportunity. An opportunity to shake a hand, to encourage, to show gratitude, and to pass on the torch.

I always knew there would be a day when I wouldn’t be running across Canada again. That day has long since come and gone. But it’s still an incredible feeling to watch others take on that same journey—running, biking, walking, portaging—finding their own way across this country.

That doesn’t mean the adventures stop. They just change shape.

The beautiful part is that there are still amazing Canadians out there doing exactly this. One of them is Trevor. He’s creating movement and opening doors for people to better understand that Canada, as a whole, is an incredible place to be. Our healthcare system isn’t perfect—but it is something worth protecting and improving. And as long as we keep working at things, we don’t let them die.

I’m grateful to still be moving forward and, in whatever way I can, to keep inspiring others. And maybe someday, somewhere down the road, our paths will cross again.
