đ± Your Garden is Waking UpâAre You Watching Closely? đ
Spring is a powerful time in the gardenâplants are stretching their roots, bugs are on the move, and the soil is alive with activity. Whether you're growing veggies, herbs, or perennials, this is the season to pay attention.
Here are 3 things to observe in your garden this week:
đ 1. Soil Health: Is it holding moisture well? Does it smell earthy (thatâs a good sign!)? A quick finger test can tell you if you need to water or mulch.
đż 2. Plant Growth: Are your plants thriving or looking stressed? Yellowing leaves might mean too much water or not enough nutrients. Donât ignore the signsâtheyâre talking to you!
đȘČ 3. Pests & Friends: Not all bugs are bad! Look for signs of aphids or slugs, but also keep an eye out for ladybugs and beesâyour gardenâs built-in helpers.
đŹ The more you observe now, the easier it is to support your garden through the season. Need help knowing what to look for or what to do next? Thatâs what Iâm here for.

Early Spring Garden Check-In: Observing & Preparing for the Season Ahead đ±âïžâïž
As winter loosens its grip and the first signs of spring start to emerge, now is the perfect time to step into the garden and take stock of whatâs happening. Before planting begins, here are a few key things to observe and tasks to consider:
đ Soil Check â How is your soil looking? Is it still frozen, overly wet, or beginning to dry out? Avoid working in overly soggy soil to prevent compaction.
đ± Perennials & Overwintered Crops â Take note of any perennials starting to wake up. Look for signs of new growth on berry bushes, herbs, and asparagus. If you left cold-hardy greens like kale or garlic in the ground, check their condition and clear away dead leaves to encourage new growth.
đ Mulch & W**d Control â Snowmelt may reveal early weeds starting to sprout. Removing them now prevents a bigger problem later. Also, check your mulchâdoes it need refreshing, or is it still providing good coverage?
đ Wildlife & Pollinators â Keep an eye out for early pollinators like native bees. Leaving some leaf litter undisturbed a bit longer can provide shelter for beneficial insects still emerging from winter dormancy.
đ Sun & Microclimate Observations â With the sun sitting higher in the sky, now is a great time to reassess your gardenâs sun exposure. Notice where the snow melts firstâthose warm spots might be great for early planting!
đ§ Water Flow & Drainage â As snow melts, observe how water moves through your garden. Are there areas that stay soggy? Adjusting grading or adding organic matter can improve drainage before heavy spring rains arrive.
Taking the time to observe your garden now will help set you up for a strong growing season ahead. What signs of spring have you noticed in your garden so far? Share below! đđż
