Every year I honour my breastfeeding journey during World Breastfeeding Week by taking a stand against predatory formula marketing.

When I had Scarlett I made the choice to breastfeed, and with that choice I was inundated with advice to keep formula in the house “just in case”, sent free samples, free bottles, found pamphlets plastered over the doctors clinic walls (all of which goes against the WHO Code which AHS is supposed to be following), and stepped on eggs shells trying to explain why I didn’t want to use formula. Predatory marketing is everywhere, while breastfeeding support is hard to come by. No one makes money when you breastfeed your baby, and companies know that. They use your insecurities and ignorance during a very vulnerable time in your life to sell you a product, and once your milk supply has dwindled you rely on them exclusively.

Now we have thousands of influencers being paid to promote formula to other vulnerable families, which is why we want Meta to make a change. It’s dangerous and unethical in so many ways I could info dump all day. To make it clear, this is not about Mum shaming for using formula, this is about corporate greed. Parents deserve to make their own feeding choices without the influence of the $50 billion a year formula industry.

My voice is small, I know this, but it is consistent and irritating. If you want to fight the good fight you can join me with

Happy World Breastfeeding Week 💜

We’ll be travelling soon and I see this question a lot: how much breastmilk can I take onboard?

You can take as much as you need, and you don’t need to be travelling with your baby. Just allow enough time for security to screen the milk, and transport in contains that can be opened and resealed again.

Travelling with frozen breastmilk in a cooler bag can also extend the time you have to get it to a refrigerator at the other end.

Happy travels 💜✈️

I saw a mother say this on a post by and I had to share because it’s so powerful.

There is certainly space to grow parts of yourself outside motherhood, but when they are little and you’re in a stage of life where all you do is nurture and care for a tiny human; it’s important to remember that your actions are powerful.

Choosing to comfort your child and putting them first, above everything, is so impactful. The work you do everyday to nurture and nourish your baby IS👏SO👏IMPORTANT👏

I’ve been talking about birth, birth plans, and birth trauma to other Mums a lot recently and keep hearing the same words “I should be glad I had a healthy baby”.

Yes, we all want healthy babies, but we also want healthy parents. This includes the opportunity and space to process our birth experiences. Not everyone has the support at home to talk about their birth and process the emotions, and sometimes this comes up much later on.

We need to normalize that a healthy baby isn’t the ONLY goal, and we need to normalize postpartum counselling to work through these experiences. And most importantly, we need to promote change within the healthcare system.

Our birth experience can directly affect our feeding goals and postpartum health.

We want healthy babies AND healthy parents 💜

Did you know that breastmilk contains melatonin, the hormone that helps regulate sleep? This natural compound plays a vital role in promoting restful sleep patterns for infants, which can lead to better overall health and development.

Breastmilk isn’t just a source of nutrition; it’s a beautifully complex fluid that adapts to meet the needs of your growing baby. Melatonin in human milk supports their circadian rhythms, helping them learn when it’s time to sleep and when it’s time to be awake.

This incredible connection between breastfeeding and sleep highlights the amazing ways our bodies work together to nurture our little ones. Whether you’re a breastfeeding parent or exploring other options, understanding these benefits can help us all appreciate the journey of parenthood even more. Here’s to the magic of nature and the bonds we create along the way!
