Every dojang has its own little rituals, and we're always curious how other schools do it.
So here's what we want to know. How does your dojang sit when the Master starts talking? Which side does your name face when you tie your belt? How do you hold the target, how do you treat your dobok, and who gets the first bow when you walk through the door? They're small things, but no two schools seem to do them exactly alike.
We put five of these questions in the carousel. Swipe through, then tell us how your dojang does it. And if you've got a rule we didn't mention, drop it in the comments. We'd genuinely love to learn something new.

A belt knot looks like the smallest thing in the dojang. It isn't.
Watch a class start and you can usually spot who's locked in before anyone throws a kick. A neatly tied belt, ends even, is the first quiet bow of the day: respect for the art, for the room, and for the person wearing it. There's a practical side too. A solid knot holds through every kick and fall, so nobody's stopping mid-drill to fix it. And when a young student finally ties it on their own, that's often their first real "I've got this" moment.
Same knot, same way, every class. That's where discipline actually starts.
Swipe through for the 6 reasons we make a big deal out of such a small habit. β‘οΈ

Your kid can't put that game down? That's not an accident. It was built to be exactly that addictive.
Games are good at four things: they give clear goals, they let you level up, they reward you constantly, and they hand you a team to belong to. Taekwondo does all four too. The difference is that the progress is real, and it sticks around long after the screen goes dark.
A belt takes months. A clean kick takes a thousand reps. Waiting that long for the payoff is how patience actually gets built, and patient kids make calmer choices everywhere else too. Turn off the game and the score is gone. Turn off the dojang lights and your kid keeps everything they earned.
Swipe through all 9 cards to see how the dojang beats the game at its own game. β‘οΈ

First day on the mat. He walked in, held up his sign, and grinned like he'd been doing this for years.
We make a real fuss over first days around here. Every kid is nervous on day one. What matters is stepping onto the mat anyway and giving it a go. That's where it all starts, and from there we work on confidence, focus, and the kind of respect that sticks with our students long after their first belt. Welcome to the Unity family! π
Think your child might be ready for a first day of their own? Come try a free class and we'll take it from there.

That loud shout in class? It isn't just noise β and it definitely isn't there to scare anyone. π₯
In Taekwondo we call it the Kihap, and it's one of the most misunderstood parts of training. Beginners often feel shy about it, but that single breath of sound is actually doing five things at once. It drives real power into every strike (a silent kick is a soft kick), braces the core so a blow to the stomach won't knock the wind out of you, and locks your mind, breath, and body onto the target at the exact moment of impact. Just as importantly, it breaks hesitation β when a student finds their voice, they stop holding back and commit with their whole self. That's confidence you can hear.
Swipe through all 5 reasons we Kihap β and why we ask every student, big or small, to find theirs. β‘οΈ

νλβ¦ λβ¦ μ
β¦ could you keep going in Korean? π₯
Every Unity Taekwondo student can count to 10 in Korean β and it's one of the first things that makes class feel like the real thing. From νλ (hana) to μ΄ (yeol), counting out loud during drills builds focus, sharpens listening, and connects our students to the roots and culture of Taekwondo with every single rep. It's more than numbers β it's respect for where the art comes from. And honestly? It's just really cool to know.
Swipe through all the way to μ΄, practice out loud, then test yourself on the last card β how many can YOU count? β‘οΈ

π₯ We did it! Unity Taekwondo took home 1st place in the Beyond Yarrow category at the 2026 Yarrow Days Parade.
Marching down the route in our doboks, our students showed exactly what taekwondo is all about β discipline, pride, and showing up as a team. Every kick, every step, every smile out there came from kids who weren't afraid to stand tall in front of their whole community. This one belongs to all of you who represented our dojang with so much heart. π₯
Thank you, Yarrow, for cheering us on β we'll be back next year ready to do it all again.

What a day. π₯
Yarrow Days gave us rain, wind, and sunshine β sometimes all in one hour β and our students met every bit of it head-on. There was joy and there were nerves. There were cheers loud enough to drown out the weather, and quiet moments of fear right before stepping up. Some kicks landed perfectly. Some didnβt. And thatβs exactly the point: courage isnβt the absence of fear or mistakes β itβs showing up, trying again, and finishing strong anyway.
We watched young warriors push through challenges, laugh off the slips, and walk away a little braver than they arrived. Those are the wins that donβt fit on a scoreboard.
A huge thank-you to for the opportunity to be part of such a special community celebration. And to every Unity Taekwondo student and family who showed up, performed, cheered, and stood in the rain with us: thank you. You are the heart of this team. π

That's a wrap on Yarrow Days! βοΈπ¨β
The weather threw everything it had at us β and somehow that's exactly what made this one unforgettable. Rain, wind, and all, Unity Taekwondo marched down Yarrow Central Road with heart, and the cheers along the route carried us the whole way.
A heartfelt thank you to every Unity Taekwondo family and student who showed up, cheered us on, and trained so hard to make this happen. From our littlest white belts to our black belts β you were the reason this day shined. We can't quite believe this was already our second year. π
Until next time, Yarrow β see you again soon! β‘οΈ
