Big news from B.C.! π The government just revealed a 20% tax on profits for those selling properties within two years of purchase. π
The tax gradually fades to zero between days 366 and 730 after acquisition.
Starting Jan. 1, 2025, it applies to properties sold on or after this date, even those bought earlier. Sellers could face a 10% tax if selling within a year and a half, lifted after 730 days or two years of ownership.
π This tax covers income from the sale of properties with housing units and those zoned for residential use, including income from condo assignments. π° On another note, the BCREA Economics Department estimates the flipping tax will decrease home sales by 1-2% over three years.
Although the impact is relatively small, the tax may prompt some sellers to delay listing, potentially affecting inventory and prices.
