The Callander Sleuth Society Mystery Book Club will now be renamed The Callander SLURP Society after another wonderful meeting last night!

"We all hold lost recipes in our hearts. A very special restaurant in Kyoto helps find them . . .

Tucked away down a Kyoto backstreet lies the extraordinary Kamogawa Diner, run by Chef Nagare and his daughter, Koishi. The father-daughter duo have reinvented themselves as “food detectives,” offering a service that goes beyond cooking mouth-watering meals. Through their culinary sleuthing, they revive lost recipes and rekindle forgotten memories."

If you are looking to explore the biggest trend in publishing right now (Cozy Japanese Fiction), this is a wonderful book to help get you started.

The last Coffee Club of the season is upon us and its sure to be a good one as we welcome back friend of the library, Walter Cecchini.

Walter is a local poet and police officer, and currently specializing in de-escalation, crisis negotiations, and wellness. Walter is teamed with a mental health professional while serving the public, and describes himself as C.O.P. “Consciously on Patrol.” Through the non-dual understanding, Walter seeks the most peaceful resolution possible and endeavors to provide aid and support to the most vulnerable and marginalized in our society. Having discovered non-duality in 2018, Walter began writing poetry in March 2021 as a means to clarify the non-dual understanding for himself and others.

Join him Wednesday June 17th at 1:30pm for a discussion on wellness- physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual- through the lens of perspective, positive change, and poetry.

This is a free program open to everyone, no registration required.

The Big Ideas Book Club met last night in the library gardens to discuss the book Forest Walking: Discovering the Trees and Woodlands of North America by Jane Billinghurst and Peter Wohlleben.

After a great group discussion, we were treated to a tree climbing demonstration by the staff at Lemon Tree Aborists, along with a guided tree walk where we learned some fun facts about the trees located around the library.

A huge thank you to the team at Lemon Tree Arborists for donating their time to our book club to share their love of all things trees!

Join us next month where we will be discussing the book The Hidden Kingdom of Fungi: Exploring the Microscopic World in Our Forests, by Keith Seifert, followed by a foraging workshop with Lucy the Forager!

Interested in joining us in our mission to build community while celebrating curiosity? Speak to our staff to get your copy of next months book.

Friendly reminder that the Big Ideas Non-Fiction Book Club will be meeting tomorrow evening at 6:30pm.

The meeting will take place under the trees in the back library gardens (which we feel the authors would approve of)

Our guest speakers will be from Lemon Tree Arborists on the topic of notable trees in our area.

See you then!
