The new trend on the rise of dress codes and no phone/camera policies seems to be causing a bit of a stir.
The proponents argue these policies encourage inclusivity and free expression, but do they really?
Enforced dress codes *can* encourage self exploration and expression…
But they also encourage unnecessary (and wasteful) consumption for partygoers who don’t fit the bill, and can include an additional paywall that may prevent potential attendees from showing up.
(I’m not going to attend your event if I have to buy a new outfit for it, especially one I know I’ll never wear again)
No phone policies are argued to encourage people to live in the moment, and while there certainly is truth and merit to this claim…
(Someone taking a break to charge their social battery by scrolling Reddit is still enjoying the music as much as those raging on the rail)
