Since meeting Mrs. Nomad it has become a Sunday evening tradition of me getting bikes ready for the week ahead, commutes to work, road rides, mountain bike rides and cruiser rides (those are usually reserved for date nights and beer runs)
It’s always a good idea to keep on top of your bike maintenance and to ensure your tires are topped up (you wouldn’t want to be late for work or drop a six-pack on your way home)
Check your local bike shop for maintenance classes or at one of our local bike co-op’s

How often should you change the cleats on your road shoes?
A lot more often than you think.
Shoes are your connection to your bike and help ensure the power you are putting out is not being wasted.
With road shoes the majority of the cleats are plastic and exposed, so they tend to wear out sooner than a pair of mountain bike cleats which are metal and recessed in the shoe.
Ensuring your cleats are in good shape will help ensure you engage your pedals quicker and easier as well as release from them properly and reduce pulling out of your pedal when you are pumping out the watts!
When changing your cleats here are a few quick tips:
1) ensure you have the correct cleats for your pedals (take your shoes to the local bike shop and make sure you buy the correct ones
2) before removing your old cleats, be sure to mark their location with a marker, so that they line up perfectly
3) check the condition of your shoes and threaded inserts, if your shoes are cracked or the inserts are stripped, it might be time for a fresh pair
3) add some grease to the bolt threads when installing, this will ensure easy removal next time you replace your cleats
4) GO RIDE YOUR BIKE

Riding the high wood fondo tomorrow.
Bear spray is mandatory!
Remember when riding in bear country you are in their territory.
Bear spray is an low cost investment and will stay good for years if you take care of it and check it annually.
If you are riding a bike keep it in a bottle cage with a so that it is quick and easy to access ( not pictured, forgot to get one today)
