Brief on the workshop:
This art workshop about the CYANOTYPE (sun printing) process. Components of this workshop will include educating participants about the technique and guide participants in making their own cyanotype print. Participants will choose supplies ranging from translucency films, flowers, chains, and other organic materials to create their own unique composition on a piece of card stock. NO ART EXPERIENCE REQUIRED. Workshop is intended to be an intro to the cyanotype process, with a piece to take home at the end.

Class Day/ Time:
The workshop will take place on Thursday, October 12th at 6:30pm.

Age:
Adult, teen, child.

Led by:
Abby Skaug.

About the artist:
Abby is a multi-disciplinary artist, with interests and creations in the fields of street dance and filmmaking. When she came across the cyanotype technique in late 2022, she was fascinated by the history and began the journey towards being a self-taught artist. Through much trial and error, she learned how to develop better contrast and mid-tones within the resulting cyanotype print, able to bring out gorgeous landscapes and contours of the face and body to, resulting with juxtaposition in the cyan tones and contrast using monochromatic light.

We are having an other art show in the studio coming up this Friday! This time I’m going to be showing my artwork! I’m usually promoting other people’s work thru , but this show I won’t be promoting artists, but inviting them to come see my work, and hopefully hosting you in a nice evening of chit-chat, drinks and some finger food. Check out my work if you haven’t seen my work before. Looking forward to hosting and see many of your faces again! Please extend the invite to friends!

We are so pleased to announce a project we are hosting by and : “DEVIANT” art show

- Adjective “Departing from usual or accepted standards”

When: May 27th, 2023

Where: Maud Collective, 409 14th Ave NE, Calgary

There is no fee to participate in this show, no commission will be taken but 10% of art sales will go to Skipping Stone non-profit

Must identify as q***r or a part of the LGBTQ2IAS+ community

Must be 18 years of age

2D works only (i.e. paintings, drawings etc.) maximum size 100 x 100cm (Work must be ready for hanging)

Some ideas for how to direct your work:

- What does the word deviant mean to you / your art? How does this word make you feel as a q***r individual? How does your work deviate?

- How does your work touch on q***r imagery and issues?

Please submit 2-3 pieces for consideration to [email protected] and include an artist statement in third person of approx 100-300 words and please include your pronouns (if successful this statement will be displayed with your work)

Help us welcome as our new resident artist starting March 01st! Their residency will span a period of 6 months wrapping up in August.

During their residency they want to collaborate with other q***r artists to create art together and to put on shows to grow the q***r art community.
They are hoping to collaborate with small organizations such as Pansy Club and Lavender Club to put on some events that their hoping will attract an audience of like minded people. In doing this they are also hoping to continue to develop their own art and learn how it can affect and support the q***r community.

We are excited to welcome Emma to Maud studio! 😆

Exciting news to share! We are offering a 4-6 month residency starting March 01st! The residency is taking inspiration from burning man’s gift economy. There will be no commercial aspects to the residency. Anything the artist does as part of the residency that they want to share with other is free - lectures, workshops, making art! And the residency itself too is completely free! It includes access to the space, dedicate area, internet, cleaning, etc!

Express your interest in the residency by sending an email to - [email protected] or a DM. No official process. Artist will be selected based off fit & need.
