September is Black Employment Awareness Month (BEAM).
BEAM is an initiative that shines light on underrepresented talent in Black, African and Caribbean communities in Canada.
Did you know that 42.8% of Black Canadians aged 25-54 have a university degree, compared to 33.6% of non-visible minorities, yet work in jobs that were way below their educational qualifications or are unemployed all together?
Did you know that on average, Black Canadians earned $26.70 per hour in January 2021, which is $3.92 less than the $30.62 per hour earned by non-visible minorities in Canada?
Did you know that Black entrepreneurs could add an estimated $80 billion to the Canadian economy over the next decade, yet capital acquisition for this group is still below average compared to non-Black entrepreneurs?
2025 BEAM Events Include:
September 5th, 2025 - BEAM Professionals Networking - Virtual
September 10th, 2025 - LevelUP Career Fair - Virtual
September 17th, 2025 - Workplace Conference - Virtual

As an Indigenous affirming organization, we are using and will continue to use our voices to advance justice and inclusion of all Indigenous people, and we call upon our allies, supporters, donors, and partners to do the same today and every single day!
Today is Red Dress Day, a day devoted to remembering, honouring, and advocating on behalf of missing and murdered Indigenous women, girls, and 2SLGBTQ+ people.
Inspired by Jamie Black, a Métis artist from Manitoba who hung hundreds of red dresses in public to represent MMIWG2S+, this day raises awareness about the disproportionate violence that Indigenous women, girls, and Two-Spirit people face in Canada.
Five years after the final report on MMIWG, the crisis persists. On Red Dress Day and beyond, let’s stand in solidarity, honour the lives lost, and demand action. Together, we can create a safe future for all Indigenous people.
If you want to learn more about this crisis, visit Safe Passage, our initiative that monitors and provides resources on MMIWG2S+: https://bit.ly/3wp27Xt
