Learning how to support one another is an important part of student wellbeing. 18 students in Grades 9–12 spent a full day earning their Mental Health First Aid: Youth Supporting Peers certification with Action First Aid. They explored stigma, learned how to recognize when someone may be struggling, and built practical skills to support one another in moments that matter. We are also proud that 20 staff members completed Mental Health First Aid: Adults Supporting Youth training, with additional sessions in high demand.
“I am so proud of and appreciate these students in so many ways. They participated fully, maturely, were inquisitive, vulnerable, and attentive. At the end of the training, their appreciation for this opportunity was so genuine and fulsome, solidifying that in order to do the work to help our youth with the mental health crisis we are living, we must include youth as partners in mental health literacy and promotion.” — Ms. Mylonas
Mental health and wellbeing are a priority at Calgary Academy. This month, our community also participated in Hats On! for Mental Health, and students and staff in Grades 9–12 have completed the BeThere Certificate through Jack.org. Our focus on empathy continues through classroom discussions, circle meetings and daily interactions.
Thank you to Action First Aid for partnering with us in this important work! 💜

Our Grades 7–9 Knights athletes brought the energy to Foothills Athletic Park, competing in races, jumps, and throws while supporting one another every step of the way.
“What stood out most this year was the incredible teamwork from our students. Even though track is such an individual sport within each event, all we saw was students constantly cheering each other on, running from start lines to finish lines and supporting one another through every activity.” — Coach Adams
After months of hard work and training, we’re so excited to see many of our athletes moving on to league championships later this week. Way to go, Knights! 👏

The Celebration of Literacy is a key part of learning in our Junior School, bringing together long-standing traditions like Readers Theatre where students share their growth.
Students in Grades 2–4 took part in a Readers Theatre performance centred around the theme, Our Magical Earth. Families were also welcomed into the Learning Commons to explore interactive literacy stations focused on reading, writing, fluency, morphology, and ways to support literacy at home.
“The Celebration of Literacy is such a meaningful opportunity for students to share their voices and celebrate how far they’ve grown as readers and writers. Through Readers Theatre, students build fluency, confidence, expression, and teamwork, and it’s incredible to see their pride and engagement as they perform for an audience.” — Ms. Calder
It was a great opportunity to see students confidently share their learning and to celebrate the strong literacy community we are building together at Calgary Academy.
P.S. Have you noticed our new Little Library by the school gate? This initiative creates even more opportunities for reading. Please feel free to leave a book or take a book! This library was built by Mr. Diehl and students from design and fabrication helped install it.

Our Grade 10–12 Knights athletes took on everything from hurdles and sprints to high jump, long jump, shot put, and javelin at the divisional track meet at Foothills Athletic Park, many for the first time at the high school level. The support they showed each other stood out all day. 👏
“They were incredibly supportive of each other, and everyone competed to the best of their abilities." — Coach Engler

A small thank you to the people who make a big difference every day.
During Teacher Appreciation Week, this morning’s coffee cart was a way to show our gratitude for the incredible teachers who make Calgary Academy what it is. Your impact is felt across our whole community.
“Teachers at CA are the reason behind our success as they build connections with students, parents, and each other to open doors of possibility.” – Dr. Carlson

April was National Poetry Month, and our Grade 8 students marked it with a week of learning alongside spoken word artist Wakefield Brewster.
As Ms. Meyers shared, “We wanted students to engage in the poetry writing process, but more importantly to engage in learning about themselves, their place in the world and the social justice issues that inspire much of Wakefield’s poetry and spoken word art.”
The week wrapped with a poetry slam where 16 courageous students shared their work with the Grade 8 community. From global warming and politics to travel and family, each piece reflected a growing sense of confidence and self-discovery.
Students said the experience was “really unique,” that it “helped build confidence to share,” and that Wakefield was “very motivational” and “a really positive experience.”
Now a Grade 8 rite of passage at Calgary Academy, this experience continues to resonate well beyond the classroom, reminding students that poetry can be something they carry with them long after the week ends.

Today, students and staff across CA participated in Hats On! For Mental Health. 💜
This annual initiative invites communities to wear a hat to spark conversation and raise awareness about the importance of mental health. Wellness is a daily focus at Calgary Academy, and throughout Mental Health Month, we’ll be highlighting how we support connection, build understanding, and care for one another.

The Knights senior soccer team secured a 2–0 win over Clear Water Academy on Monday, making the most of home field advantage. ⚽️👏
“What I noticed was the camaraderie and support our team had for one another. Our sidelines cheered anytime a Knights player touched the ball. It was electric,” shared Coach McConnell.
Coaches Kelly, Swanson and McConnell were thrilled to see what’s practiced in training come to life during the game. One goal came from a header, where a player directed the ball into the net using their head, and strong passing led to another, highlighting the team’s growing confidence and connection on the field.
