Unread Books from Autobuy Thriller Authors

The last year ish has been chancy with reading for me, so there are a few books from my go to thriller authors that I still have to get it.

Summer always puts me in the mood for thrillers so I am eager to get to these ones. It’s usually on holidays that I like to pick them up and we are going away in June/July.

Aesthetics are for the birds some days… today it’s just reading while Eloise plays 🤷‍♀️

Listening: I don’t know why lately but I am NOT into audiobooks. My brain feels too busy or something for them. I’ve started running a bit again so when I do I am listening to my old running playlist which feels motivating and nostalgic.

Watching: Again, a whole pile of nothing honestly. I want to watch that Crash documentary on Netflix but getting to it is another thing… I still haven’t watched Virgin River!

Reading: I’m currently reading Map of the Otherlands, and finishing up Dungeon Crawler Carl. I’m chomping at the bit to read Rites of the Starling but I’m holding off. We have a birthday readathon coming up again at the end of the month so I’ve been trying to match books with prompts, and Rites of the Starling might be one of them.

I’m finally getting back to reading again after over a month of not being able to read much. I always feel like I want to read everything after the book sale and leading up to my birthday because of the readathon. And I’m slowly sorting through some books I want to read this summer, which is always fun, even if I don’t read them 😂

Review: Shield of Sparrows by Devney Perry
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫

I started reading this SO long ago. Over two months at this point but I just wasn’t able to read the physical book (nothing to do with the book… it was my baby haha), so it got neglected. I said to myself I would finish this before the end of the month and once I was able to dedicate some time to it, I couldn’t put it down.

I love the world so much. It’s mysterious, full of secrets and betrayal and monsters. It’s dark and a bit brutal and exactly what I like in a fantasy world.

I also really loved the characters… Odessa, Evie, Cathlin, Tillia… the Guardian. They absolutely captured me. There’s alot of devastation throughout the book as well so I was always braced for emotional impact because I liked so many of the characters so much.

The romance is slow burn which I loveeeeed. The build up was fantastic and made it all worth it. I won’t really say much about it… it’s perfection and should be experienced.

The ending was quite a cliffhanger and I’m really glad I waited so ridiculously long to read this that now I have the second book! It won’t be long for me to pick it up, I’d love to do it now but I have a few on standby I need to read.

Another amazing book from . Truly I shouldn’t even be surprised at this point.

Audiobook Review: Next of Kin by Hannah Bonam-Young
⭐️⭐️⭐️

Unfortunately for this book I read this very fresh off the heels of Out on a Limb, which I adored, and this book suffered because of it I think.

The first half was intriguing but the second half started to bore me 😬 I liked Chloe a lot and was rooting for her the entire time. And I was invested in Warren keeping his brother, but I didn’t really like Warren. I also wasn’t invested in their relationship at all romantically which I think played a huge part. So really the part of the story that held me was just reading to see how they faired out with the program and their respective siblings.

Overall Next of Kin was just fine for me, which honestly explains why it took so long to post this review… I read this back in the early fall.

Review: Broken & Torn by C.N. Rudy
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Melissa ( ) first turned me onto this series because she had read the first one and loved it. When I saw they take place in Alberta and the author is local I knew I had to pick them up (plus the covers are gorgeous!).

Immediately I knew I’d enjoy this from the first scene in town, it was just so chaotic and the MMC was such a dick to Lyla. Sold 😂

Emerald Falls is a dream town. Lyla works at the bookstore with her cute apartment above it. It felt so Hallmark movie to me, which I LOVE. Small town romance is definitely one of my favorite settings.

Both main characters I really liked, Lyla and Parker. I also loved the side characters and Parker’s family SO much. I’m so excited to get more of these characters in the upcoming books.

There are some tough topics covered in this book, but C.N. Rudy writes and handles them so well. The mental health aspects were exceptionally done.

If you enjoy a small town romance, especially taking place in Alberta, with a grumpy x sunshine dynamic plus mental health rep, I highly recommend picking this up.

Another Book Haul….

Yup. More books 😂😂 To be fair, the majority of these were from the book sale from a couple of weekends ago, and I forgot to share.

Yesterday, though, Eloise and I hopped in the car for a little outing to round 3 of the ! You can definitely the sale has been shopped (which is amazing) but I still managed to snag three finds (These Summer Storms, Since You’ve Been Gone and Shopaholics Christmas - somehow I didn’t own that in my collection!).

I’m definitely done book shopping for awhile now, with the exception of a preorder or two.

Good thing I truly am not bothered by a crazy TBR 😂😂

See anything I need to pick up ASAP in here?

Review: Caller Unknown by Gillian McAllister
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫

Gillian McAllister is now an auto read author for me, she hasn’t failed me yet.

It’s been kind of hard for me to read lately, Eloise doesn’t allow time for me to read anymore - she is super clingy as of late, plus I’ve been extremely busy and my brain has been mush. Caller Unknown was exactly what I needed.

This takes place largely in Texas after Simone goes to visit Lucy after an acting camp. It is extremely fast paced and truly hard to put down.

The ending is definitely shocking and the dual point of view adds to it. I love how it played out.

Some things between Simone and Lucy I just felt so hard now having a daughter and I truly understood how she would do anything for her. What a fitting review for Mother’s Day 😂😂

I highly recommend this one, especially if you have loved Gillian’s books in the past!

Big Book Sale: Volunteer Appreciation Event + Day 1

I was beyond thrilled to be able to attend the book sale this year.

Last year I missed out on the pre sale volunteer day (and the entire sale actually) because I gave birth. It was a good trade off 😂 BUT that meant I was super eager to attend, having not shopped the sale in two years!

Yesterday I went with (and our guests!) and what a haul for the first day. I actually got a huge amount of kids books as well, but they aren’t pictured.

Today, , and I were back at it again. I didn’t expect to get such a big haul again today but alas.. I did. So this is two days combined, I’m wowed by how many good books there were.

I was able to find a few that I’ve read but wanted to add to my shelves, plus so many TBR gems. Also the out of print Gods and Monsters edition to finally complete that trilogy.

It was such an amazing two days of shopping and fun.

The is on until May 17th, 2026 at the Calgary Curling Club!

March Wrap Up

I am super delayed with this wrap up because April has been a whirl wind!

Honestly I can barely remember March at this point 😂 I did read two books off my physical tbr which is great, this month I for sure won’t be. I also enjoyed all books I read which is amazing. Since I’m reading less now I hate when I pick one that’s a miss.

This month is my daughters first birthday and my mom is here visiting among a gazillion other things. We have a fully stacked month so I don’t expect to get a ton of reading done and halfway through the month I can say that is true 😂😂

Review: A Deadly Inheritance by Kelley Armstrong
⭐️⭐️⭐️💫

I was really eager to pick this up - I met Kelley Armstrong years ago and have enjoyed the books I have read from her. This one also referenced The Inheritance Games so immediately I was intrigued.

I was immediately into this story. I love a boarding school, especially with dark academia vibes. I wouldn’t say this is super dark but it gives the vibes, and I always love a southern setting, even though we didn’t get a ton.

One thing I really enjoyed was the friend group that wasn’t out to get her at every opportunity. I really enjoyed that (even though I love badly behaving rich teens haha), I definitely warmed up to these characters quickly because of that.

Some things weren’t fleshed out super well for me or felt a bit jumpy, which is why the lower rating. I felt the beginning, before she was rushed off to Westdale, could have used a bit more explanation. Both her parents died young, like REALLY young (my age) and that wasn’t really discussed too much other than they died. She also didn’t wrap up any ends in her old life which felt unrealistic.

I didn’t guess what was going on, so the mystery aspect was fun and intriguing but also felt like it dragged for a while and then felt hurried if that makes sense.

Overall, I really enjoyed this. It was such a fun read… I had a hard time putting it down. If you liked The Inheritance Games, or The Rosewood Hunt this gives similar vibes so I think you’d enjoy this one!

What This Week

It’s been a couple of weeks since I’ve posted/been on IG because I have one extremely uncomfortable little girl who is teething up a storm and has pretty bad separation anxiety.

I’ve been reading some which is great, but many things are falling by the wayside (including sleep 😂). I’m hoping I can get some IG posts preplanned this weekend so that I can just post, I have a huge amount of reviews that I just need to write up!

Reading: I just finished My Husbands Wife last night and it was good. This morning I started Shield of Sparrows, and I’m hoping to get it finished for the second books release!

Listening: Im currently listening to These Summer Storms but my hold is due later today and I haven’t finished 😢 I’m hoping I can get it back quickly in either physical or audio because I’m enjoying it. I’m also listening to the first Gossip Girl book, I own a lot of these books so I’m just trying to move them off my TBR. I’m not sure if I’ll continue the series… I love the tv show which is why I have them but not sure if the books are it for me.

Watching: It’s so hard to watch tv right now. I’m almost done SLOMW and I’m kind of over this show, it’s so boring and nothing featured is new since I follow them on socials. I’m hoping to start Virgin River this weekend but we will see. I watch a lot of booktube at the moment 😂

I have recently limits on my phone because I’ve been just been heavy on tiktok during naps, etc. It’s so easy to just spend hours scrolling and it feels like such a waste.
