We don’t turn our femininity on and off like a light switch.
Being masculine in our work and feminine when we’re at home is a myth.
You may be cyclical and have ever changing desires and needs, but you’re not a ping pong ball going back and fourth needing multiple personalities dependant on what you’re doing.
If you feel like you do, I encourage you to get curious about what’s driving this way of living because it sounds exhausting!

Am I speaking to you with any of the above?

Sharing yourself and being seen by another for everything that you are and everything that you’re not are some of the most incredible and exhilarating moments of life.
The build up to these moments are also some of the most terrifying, and for that reason some people avoid vulnerability like the plague or get caught up in the “word-vomit” style just so they can get it out.
Regulating your nervous system and peeling back the layers to explore what’s really happening under your feelings and emotions is essential for true vulnerability.
If you don’t understand what’s creating the discomfort or you get overwhelmed by your emotions, it’s going to be quite challenging to clearly articulate how you’re experiencing something and ask for what you need.

Communication is your #1 tool to having truly intimate connections and feeling seen and heard.
I usually hear “chemistry” from people when they tell me what they want in their relationship.
The bad news - the chemistry you feel in the beginning will not last the duration of the partnership. The good news - new chemistry can be created and it has nothing to do with physicalities and everything to do with compatibility and communication.
Here are 6 common mistakes people make when communicating.
I want to point out that these are all protection strategies and not because you’re simply a “bad communicator”.
This is why it’s so important to get intimately connected with yourself first so you can let go of the need to control, prove a point or defend yourself.

The term “self love” grosses me out and here’s why…
I do not believe that you can learn how to love yourself from anything outside of yourself.
As much as bubble baths, pedicures, fancy treatments and trendy clothes are great and can support your self-care and expression, it’s all external and it can NOT be the source or the catalyst to you loving yourself.
You can’t eat the best foods, wear the most stylish outfits and have the cutest nails and go home and tell yourself “I look fat”, “I talked too much on that date” or “why am I so stupid” and pretend to love yourself.
What matters more is what you’re saying, thinking or believing about yourself over any of the rest. The dialog between you and YOU. How you communicate to yourself is the key ingredient to self love.
Self-soothing, self-acceptance, self-compassion, self-kindness, self-forgiveness ⬅️ THIS IS SELF LOVE!
Just like the saying “you can’t outwork a bad diet” …botox, injections, red light therapy, weight lifting, green juice or red bottom shoes will never override destructive self-dialog.
I am not bashing any of the above (trust me, I love my red light, lifting weights and I could easily get down with a red bottom 😉), I just want to be clear on what I believe is the reason so many people struggle to love themselves outside of what’s trending on social media.

Have you ever heard of your strategic self?
If you’re human, it comes with the territory so I encourage you to keep reading ;)
Your strategic self is the version of you that creates strategies (knowingly and unknowingly), to protect yourself and to use to gain acceptance, love and belonging.
These strategies start developing real young (like when you were a baby type young 🍼) You would learn from your parents what you needed to do to get their attention and get your needs met.
You then learned from extended family, friends, crushes, media and school peers what you needed to do in order to fit in, get chosen and be “cool”.
Over the years these strategies become subconscious conditioning and you take them on as personal traits with the belief it’s what you need in order to be loved, accepted and safe.
3 of the most common strategies I hear are:
A) Perfectionism
B) Overachieving
C) Excessive need to look a certain way
The thing is, these traits are not who you are at your core. They are just strategies used to protect yourself, get love or to cope with uncomfortable experiences.
I could definitely relate to all 3 and they still pop up from time to time depending on what’s going on in my world.

Have you ever said “remember that Tuesday 7 years ago when…”?
Probably not, right?!
Memories are experiences that have evoked emotions which create imprints on your brain and nervous system.
It’s the moments we remember, not the day itself.
The reason I bring this up is because you have moment after moment after moment on any given day to get up and try again.
Today doesn’t matter that it’s Monday. Who do you choose to be today, right now in this moment and the next?
Be intentional, slow down and presence yourself with what you’re doing, who you’re with and why it is you’re doing whatever it is you’re doing.
The things that aren’t working in your life the way you’d like them to are because you’re passing over moments with rapid speed planning for the next or protecting from the last.
Who do you choose to be in THIS moment?
I choose to be: courageous, kind and peaceful.
