On June 21, we recognize National Indigenous Peoples Day, a day to celebrate the cultures, histories, traditions, and contributions of First Nations, Métis, and Inuit Peoples across Turtle Island.

Every year, we acknowledge the traditional territories where we live, work, gather, play, and organize. National Indigenous Peoples Day is an opportunity to deepen that commitment, to learn more about the Peoples who have called these lands home since time immemorial, and to reflect on our own responsibilities under Treaty.

All of us have a role to play in understanding the true meaning of this day and sharing that knowledge with those around us.

If you're able, find a celebration in your community today and take part!

From composing a soundscape for La Vieja en la Mecedora with dance artist Alexandra Contreras to learning new instruments for Come From Away with Theatre Calgary, Devetzis is always pushing the boundaries of what music can be.

As part of our new blog series spotlighting artists in our Community Directory, Nia Devetzis shares what she’s currently working on, the ideas shaping her practice and why she’s excited for this year’s Sound Atlas Festival.

The Calgary music community suffered a tremendous loss over the weekend. The CMA wants to extend its condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of Mike Little. He played an important and influential role in our community as musician and leader, including serving for a term as President of the Calgary Musicians Association. He will be missed.
