LET’S TALK SPECIALIST ROLES🎨👩‍🔬🎭⛹️‍♀️I LOVE being a specialist teacher. It is definitely different to being in the classroom and comes with its own set of challenges. Some kids love art and some don’t but my job is to try and make it engaging for all of them and that means coming up with new ideas, using a variety of mediums and exploring different artists and styles to keep them curious and excited about art. The studio is almost ready to open its door. 🤠

I’m so proud of our first project. We used the tips of our fingers to form shapes and tools to make texture. We used the colour palettes we designed to inform our choices. These kids got a lot of guidance and needed very little help!

It’s a pleasure to announce DVS is officially equipped as a facility for making and baking pottery. This means DVS homeschoolers can expect to learn the prehistoric art of making objects out of clay, firing and glazing them. Next year’s curriculum is going to be phenomenal. Art history lessons included.

We warmed up with 2-minute ‘blind’ drawings in our selfie class. These drawings are made without looking at the paper or lifting your pencil. The concept is to trace an object with your eyes and translate the visual information with your hand. This is a powerful exercise to train hand eye coordination, observation skills, and exactitude. Students partnered up and drew various objects and finally, each other, then exchanged their funny portraits. It’s a good way to lift the anxiety of making drawings ‘good’ or precious. The best part is the hysterics that follow each round of drawing: a loud roar of shock, laughter, and comedy 😂🤣😅. Here are a few we all enjoyed.
