Sagesse empowers people of all backgrounds to disrupt structures of abuse through curating environments to heal and lead safe, healthy lives. With innovation as our programming cornerstone, Sagesse works for anyone who has experienced domestic abuse, including people who are at risk of being abused, informally support others, or are involved in s*x work. A meaningful step forward.
Bill C-16 has received Royal Assent, recognizing coercive control as a serious form of harm in Canada.
For many people, abuse isn't only physical. It can also involve patterns of behaviour that create fear, limit freedom, and take away a person's sense of autonomy.
Coercive control can look like:
• Feeling afraid much of the time
• Losing control over your own decisions
• Changing your behaviour to stay safe
• Feeling like you're constantly "walking on eggshells"
• Being isolated, monitored, or controlled in ways others may not see
At Sagesse, this reflects what many people have shared with us for years, and what advocates, organizations, and communities have worked hard to make visible.
Recognition matters. Awareness matters. Support matters.
If this feels familiar, you are not alone.
If you're supporting someone, your care matters.
This is an important step, and the work of building safer relationships and communities continues.
We're here.

Thank you to the Moffat Family Fund at the Saskatchewan Community Foundation for investing in safer, more connected communities.
Their support of Sagesse's Peer Support and REAL Talk programs helps ensure that women experiencing abuse can access meaningful peer support and that informal supporters have the skills and confidence to respond to domestic abuse and coercive control.
Together, we're building connection, increasing awareness, and creating pathways to support. This work is only possible because of partnerships like this. 💜

Today is World Elder Abuse Awareness Day. 💜
Elder abuse is more common than we think. It often goes unseen and can take many forms, including emotional, financial, physical, or neglect.
Everyone deserves to feel safe, respected, and supported at every stage of life.
We can all play a role:
✔️ Check in on older adults in your life
✔️ Learn the signs of abuse
✔️ Speak up if something doesn’t feel right
Together, we can create communities where older adults are treated with dignity and care.

We’re honoured to celebrate the Imperial Sovereign Court of the Chinook Arch (ISCCA) as they mark their 50th Coronation year. For five decades, ISCCA has been a powerful force for giving back, bringing community together through advocacy, celebration, and philanthropy.
Our relationship with ISCCA is one we deeply value. Their ongoing support of Sagesse reflects a shared commitment to building a safer, more compassionate community. Together, we’re helping ensure individuals experiencing abuse can access connection, peer support, and pathways to safety.
Thank you, ISCCA, for standing alongside us, not just in this moment, but as part of a lasting partnership. 💜

We are so grateful to the Community Foundation of Southeastern Alberta for their generous support of Sagesse’s Peer Support Program.
Through a recent grant ceremony, we received $20,000, along with an additional $5,000 from the WestMET Community Fund, to support our work in Hanna and Youngstown, bringing the total investment to $25,000.
This funding helps ensure people experiencing domestic abuse and coercive control are supported, believed, and not alone.
Peer-based support is powerful. It connects people with others who understand, strengthens community capacity, and helps individuals access support in the places they live, work, and play.
Thank you for investing in community members supporting one another and for helping build safer, more connected communities 💜

S*x workers are part of our community. Stigma ends when conversation begins.
On International S*x Workers’ Day, we recognize the importance of dignity, safety, and respect for all. This day is a reminder that meaningful change starts with listening, learning, and showing up without judgment.
Today is a time to reflect, raise awareness, and stand in solidarity, while continuing to challenge stigma and support safer, more inclusive communities. 💜
