What a night! We had just returned home from a 12 hour journey starting at Klahoose Wilderness Resort, to find the aurora dancing above our city home. The journey home was flawless, starting with a water taxi to Lund, and followed by a land transfer to Powell River, (Pacific Coastal) Beechcraft 1900 flight to YVR, and a (WestJet) 737 flight to Calgary. Even luckily avoided an accident-backup on the Deerfoot trail to home on the final stretch. I set the bags down, they are still unpacked, looked up at the night sky then grabbed my camera bag and headed out until 3:00 am. What a magical sight to see, and this far 'south', quite literally spectacular.

Green Therapy

When in a rain forest one can't really complain about the rain, even if it's 50 mm in 36 hours. The river has swelled a few feet between our consecutive days at its side, and there are numerous new thundering waterfalls cascading along the mountainous inlet channels of Desolation Sound. There is a lot to take in at first, but something that never ceases to be immediate, is the overwhelming sense of life - represented in unimaginable varieties of green.

Every type of weather presents a unique face. Today's rain at Toba Inlet created wistful misty scenes like this, where land, clouds, and trees blend into a single exchange of carbon, water, and oxygen. Beautiful to inhale.

Vancouver Airport makes the journey part of the destination.

It was an honour to be invited to present to our class of 99 this weekend in Banff. The event gave me the opportunity to try something new in the safety of friends. I tried for the first time, to interweave the places I've been fortunate enough to travel through the support of Maple Leaf Adventures, Adventure Canada, Exodus Adventure Travels, Banff Trail Riders, Klahoose Wilderness Resort and Canadian Geographic, into a single thread of our collective story of creation as it is known at this point in time.

It is a tall order, and it needs much refinement, but something feels right about this, and it will continue to be my goal. From our connection to outpace through the atoms in our bodies, to the collective shared genealogy of all humans reaching back to Africa, these very basic facts already known, but often in their separate fields, have tremendous significance when we can truly absorb the information and relate it to our lives.

I'm very grateful to the Class of 99 Dugongs for starting me on this journey.

I'm looking very forward to the upcoming cultural and nature experience, on the Canadian Geographic Grizzly Bears of Toba Inlet adventure, with Klahoose Wilderness Resort October 6-10. There is only one cabin left if anyone is interested in joining us.

This award winning indigenous owned and operated off-grid eco resort offers an "immersive Indigenous cultural experiences alongside outdoor activities, such as kayaking, nature and wildlife viewing, and the Klahoose grizzly bear tours in nearby Toba Inlet."

Please note these are not my photographs - they are from the resort website. I look forward to creating some of my own as we observe the bears annual salmon fishing.

The healing effect of being in the presence of large scale natural environments is no better experienced than being in the presence of a valley of glaciers.

On our second morning at Cariboos Mountain Lodge, a helicopter transported us to a valley ledge from where I launched a drone to fly over this glacier that appears to be 'draped' over the mountain its shaping.

Looking straight down at the sheet of ice sliding into the valley, the textured lines of time, like tree rings, are a pictograph into the distant past, reminding us our fleeting presence here in this miraculous landscape.
