You can literally drive south for hours and still be a stone's throw away from the Great Barrier Reef. Here's a couple of spots we stopped at as we drove from Cairns to Melbourne.

Feels downright impossible to get a good stretch of weather in some places in . It’s like a right of passage to sit at Panekire hut and admire the shades of white through the windows. But clouds have a way of making the rest of the trail special when you look back. I certainly feel that way looking through the photos. 9/11.

I think waiting to do the was the right call. At almost 80km long, every day on the Heaphy is a fundamentally different walk. There wasn’t any days of absolute majesty like the Routeburn or the Milford but it was made up for by the variety of plant and animal life. It’s so remote, it’s highly suspected to be the last place on the planet to house the .

The last of the week was the . Definitely the most famous of New Zealand’s tramps. Whoever famously said it was the “finest” walk in the world certainly wasn’t talking about the weather. Wet and wonderful!
