Multimodal Literacy
Using visual, auditory, and kinesthetic pathways to make reading and writing make sense for every learner. In person or online.

Kids remember best when learning feels active. When they can move, see, hear, and build, concepts become clearer and confidence grows right along with it. ๐ง

Strong reading isnโt about speed, itโs about knowing how to break down words, read with flow, and truly understand the meaning. These skills build over time, and each one supports the others. ๐

Learning sticks when kids use more than one sense. Mixing visuals, movement, and hands-on moments helps information land in a deeper, more memorable way. Itโs simple, but incredibly effective. ๐

Kids show math growth in everyday moments like noticing patterns, talking about numbers, or explaining how they solved something. These little signs often tell the biggest story about their understanding. โ

Kids take in information in ways that feel natural to them and thatโs the beauty of learning. When we honor those differences, we help them grow with confidence instead of comparison. ๐

This weekโs Wordy Wednesday is all about advent, a perfect word for December and a perfect morphology lesson.
Prefix = toward
Root = come
Once students learn these pieces, they unlock a whole family of words: event, invent, prevent, convention.
Morphology really is the gift that keeps on giving. ๐โจ

Writing gives the brain a workout in the best way. It slows thinking just enough to help ideas connect and stick. Whether kids are jotting notes or practicing cursive, those tiny strokes build real understanding. โ๏ธ

December brings the perfect mix of spar๐ธ๐น๐ฒ, sprin๐ธ๐น๐ฒ, and twin๐ธ๐น๐ฒ, so it is the perfect month to explore syllables.
Once students learn to count back 3 letters, these endings become simple and satisfying to decode. This one is always a favourite during holiday lessons.
Why count back 3?
How it works:
Consonant-le forms its own syllable because the final acts as a syllable unit.
โข the is silent
โข the carries the syllable sound
โข the consonant before joins it โ making the final syllable

Confidence blooms where learning feels safe.
Predictable routines, clear steps, and genuine connection create a space where students can stretch without fear. Thatโs where real growth happens.

This weekโs Wordy Wednesday looks at the word Mayflower and the spelling patterns inside it.
We focused on the ๐ด๐ฟ๐ฎ๐ฝ๐ต๐ฒ๐บ๐ฒ , which can spell two different phonemes:
โข โ /oส/ as in flow
โข โ /aส/ as in flower
A helpful reminder for students is that ๐ถ๐ ๐๐๐ฒ๐ฑ ๐บ๐ผ๐๐๐น๐ ๐ฎ๐ ๐๐ต๐ฒ ๐ฒ๐ป๐ฑ ๐ผ๐ณ ๐๐ผ๐ฟ๐ฑ๐, but it can also come before a single or , and occasionally inside a two-syllable word when the first syllable is stressed and the next begins with or (like tower and towel).
Try both sounds when reading a new word and choose the one that makes sense. It is a great built-in decoding strategy.
Wishing you all a warm and restful Thanksgiving. ๐ฆ๐

Dyslexia doesnโt look the same for every child. For some, it shows in writing, while for others it appears in reading or organization. By connecting the dots across different areas, caregivers can catch patterns that might otherwise be missed. Early awareness is the first step toward unlocking a childโs strengths.

Reading readiness isnโt about starting early. Itโs about building awareness.
When children hold a book correctly, notice print direction, and enjoy stories, theyโre already developing the foundations of literacy.
