PUP CRAWL | Volunteers from CNIB strolled past Silvera's Aspen, Spruce and Bow Valley Commons communities during their "Pup Crawl" walk on Friday. Pups included CNIB Guide Dogs in Training - puppies ranging from four to eight months, plus some older Certified Guide Dogs. Residents enjoyed the parade of dogs but especially loved when some of them returned for visits and ear scratches! Residents also made fleece dog toys that they shared with the participating pooches.

PIPPIN | Beaverdam Commons residents enjoyed a recent visit from Pippin, a miniature goat who stopped by as part of the pet therapy program. Residents loved meeting this little ray of sunshine.
Pet therapy can be especially meaningful for residents living with memory loss. Animals can spark positive emotions, reduce anxiety, encourage social interaction, and help evoke memories through touch and sensory experience. These simple, calming moments can create comfort and connection when words may be harder to find.
A heartfelt thank you to our wonderful volunteer, Willow, for making this experience possible.

OPEN HOUSE | At the Westview Town Suites annual open house earlier this month, guests and residents enjoyed entertainment by High Mileage during happy hour, a visit from our best furry friend, Honey, through the St. John Ambulance pet therapy program, hors d'oeuvres by Silvera’s dining team as well as cotton candy and popcorn!
The Calgary Horticultural Society joined us for a mini flower arranging class where visitors and residents made spring posies, music specialist Evan shared about deep listening and music theory programs coming up at Westview, and Silvera employees provided suite tours. A variety of vendor health partners also attended, providing information about supports available at Westview. Door prize draw winners received gift baskets, brunch tickets, gift cards and a complimentary massage!

MOTHERS | Wishing a very Happy Mother's Day to all of the amazing moms, grandmothers, aunts, and other important women in our lives! ❤️

JAMAICA | Silvera communities celebrated the vibrant flavours and spirit of Jamaica through the Explore program in April.
Thanks to the input and support from community evening attendant Sozana Richards, who is from Jamaica, residents at Bow Valley Commons enjoyed an authentic Jamaican food tasting, including jerk chicken, rice and peas, Jamaican beef patties, spiced buns, and a special cocktail drink. Sozana also shared many interesting facts about Jamaica showing her National Symbols plaque.
At Westview Town Suites, residents enjoyed a special Jamaican lunch buffet followed by a lively piano performance by Johnson Phillip.
Shouldice Commons also celebrated Jamaican history and culture when residents and staff came together to enjoy music, a food tasting, and traditional Jamaican dances.
The events were a wonderful way to celebrate great food, music, and community!

OH DOCTOR | Aspen’s drama club recently performed a play called “Oh Doctor!” for their fellow residents as well as their neighbours at Spruce, Bow Valley and Westview Town Suites. Directed by Shannon Anderson, a Life, Learning, Leisure facilitator at Aspen, the play is about going to see a doctor who makes zany recommendations to her patients. Shannon says the eight resident actors rehearsed for six weeks, along with Tammy Tran, Aspen’s community assistant manager, who played the wacky nurse. This is the club’s second play and they are already planning for another at Christmas!

CLUCK | It was a chick-a-bration for Silvera’s Westview Town Suites residents last week who hatched two chicks, just in time for spring. Nanny McCluckins Chick Hatching Experiences supplied the eggs from local farms that were incubated at Westview for 21 days. After they hatched, the chicks stayed at Westview for a week, allowing residents to get in some snuggles. During chick-time, a few residents recalled their younger years on farms tending their own birds and animals.
