Meet our final Choreographer for the 2018 season!
Hailing from Toronto, Chenise Mitchell has been dancing and performing since the age of five. She continued to develop her passion and skills at Cawthra Park Secondary School’s performing arts program. Here, she was met with many incredible opportunities including training from well choreographers such as: Nicholas Villeneuve, directors and interpreters at Dancemakers, Sharon Wong and Belinda McGuire. These artists helped her gain courage and insight for dance as a career and she was able to perform on stages in Miami and New York City. While at Ryerson University’s dance program she was able to hone her passion for theatrical and collaborative performing arts. She took hold of opportunities to dance at music concerts, WE Day, Dance Ontario, weddings and special events. Ryerson is where her love of jazz was ignited. That love of jazz was further fueled at Decidedly Jazz Danceworks, which was her reason for moving to Calgary. During her 2 years in the Professional Training Program at Decidedly Jazz Danceworks she was and remains grateful to further develop her artistry with the gentle pushes from the DJD artistic faculty. The DJD PTP is where she found a performance partner in crime, Alicia Ward. Together as Yapping Ladies they delight audiences with their theatrical, tap comedy performances. Chenise’s evolution and passion for collaboration has connected her with performers of different disciplines. In Calgary she has performed in: Annual Alberta Dance Festival, Ignite! Festivals, Theatre Junction Lab, Fluid Fest, Spirit Fire’s A Streetcar Named Desire, 15 Minutes of Fame Rosebud Festival and Handsome Alice’s inVISIBLE to name a few. Chenise is pleasantly surprised that Calgary has been a place where her voice, artistry and passion can flourish.
