Canadian Space Agency astronaut Joshua Kutryk is headed to SPACE, and we’re putting the launch on the Infinity Dome screen.

Join us Thursday, October 1 and watch the Crew-13 launch LIVE in the dome as Joshua begins his journey to the International Space Station! 🛰️

He’ll be the next Canadian astronaut to head to the ISS and the first Canadian astronaut to fly as part of NASA’s Commercial Crew Program. 🇨🇦

And because this is worth getting up early for, Spark is opening early on Thursday for the livestream.

A day for learning, reflecting, listening and asking questions. 🧡

Today, Spark hosted special programming in honour of National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, offering a welcoming space for guests wherever they are on their reconciliation journey, including those taking their first steps.

The day’s activities were guided by the Truth & Reconciliation Commission’s six actions of ReconciliACTION. Guests were invited to explore maps and stories, create Orange Shirt pins and learn whose ancestral lands they live on, with each activity offering another way to learn, reflect, connect and deepen understanding. 💭

That same spirit of learning and connection was reflected in a special staff t-shirt designed by Calgary artist Leila Severight, who is half Saulteaux from Cote First Nation and half Okanagan.

At the heart of her design is a turtle, representing truth, surrounded by a medicine wheel formed by adults and children holding hands. Together, the elements speak to unity, reconciliation and the hope of living in harmony across Turtle Island.

Keep learning, keep asking questions and share what you learn. 🧡

Spark will be closed on September 30 to honour the lives lost, Survivors and their families, and to encourage continued learning about Residential School history in Canada.

Some things are better experienced outside the lines. 👀📐

Today, we welcomed TELUS Spark Board Director Jana Taylor, Vice Chair Neil Smith, President & CEO Guy Labine, Jeff Hessel Senior VP of Marketing & Destination Development at Tourism Calgary, AZMA - Axis Z Media Arts creators, Laura Anzola and Matthew Waddel, and University of Calgary Mathmagician, Dr. Mayada Shahada, for a special look at Impossible Geometries in the Digital Immersion Gallery.

The event was a chance to experience the exhibit, hear more about the creative, and celebrate the local collaboration that brings this playful mix of art, math and movement to life.

Created in collaboration with Calgary studio AZMA – Axis Z Media Arts, Impossible Geometries invites visitors to see shape, movement and mathematics from a completely different perspective.

Step outside the lines and experience Impossible Geometries, now playing in the Digital Immersion Gallery.

For the students who are always curious, always tinkering and always dreaming up what could come next, this one’s for them.

Over one semester, students take on a STEAM design challenge to imagine, design and build their own interactive exhibit prototype inspired by Spark. 🔬

Following their curiosity, they'll explore a STEAM topic they’re excited about, test ideas, collaborate in a team, learn from Spark Science Educators and STEAM mentors in your classroom, and watch their ideas go from sketchbook to showpiece.

At the end of their semester, students bring their creations to Spark for the Prototype Showcase and share what they built with friends, family and the community.

It’s a full semester that builds confidence, collaboration, and learning to fail forward while bringing something completely their own to life. 🚀

Immerse yourself in Impossible Geometries, the new show taking over Digital Immersion Gallery on the first floor, where doodles go rogue, circles get ideas, and lines absolutely refuse to behave.

Wander through six looping worlds of lines, circles, shapes, transformation, colour and rhythm, with floor-to-ceiling projections, an original soundtrack, and interactive floors that react to every step.

Created by Calgary studio AZMA - Axis Z Media Arts, and inspired by K–7 math learning, it’s made for curious kids ages 6–12 and anyone who likes their art with a few unexpected angles.
