As National Nursing Week comes to a close, take a moment to read about nursing tales from times past and present!
From Mount Royal’s first graduating class in 1969 to students preparing to cross the stage this spring, their stories show how nursing continues to evolve while staying grounded in human connection.
Thank you again to Anne Kendrew, Rachael Edwards and Hamza Echchoujaa for sharing your experiences and perspectives with the MRU community.

Each spring, National Nursing Week invites Canadians to reflect on and recognize the impact of nurses. This year, the week runs from May 11 to 17 and is themed “The Power of Nurses to Transform Health.”
Mount Royal University offers a powerful lens on that impact, one shaped by generations of nurses whose skill, compassion and leadership continue to transform care.
The legacy of MRU nursing alumni began in June of 1969, and nearly 60 years later, Anne Kendrew of that same class sits across from two MRU nurses of different generations: Rachael Edwards (class of 2011) and Hamza Echchoujaa (class of 2026). The trio has returned to where it all began to share their stories: on campus, in the nursing lab, surrounded by ECG monitors and hospital beds that speak to how much has changed, and what has not.

We were honoured to meet the indomitable and irreplaceable Bruce McCulloch before his Dark Purple Slice show at the Bella Concert Hall on Thursday, April 9.
Back on the campus where his journey first began, McCulloch shared stories from writing for The Reflector to discovering improv at Calgary’s Loose Moose Theatre. Bruce shared how an uncertain path and a lot of failure led him to find his voice.
He also shared what a Mount Royal University Kids in the Hall sketch might look like... any guesses? 😉
