Road Trip Photography – Trans-Canada ’25 (XIX)
Table of Contents July 15th, 2025: Day Forty-One Days in Hotels VS Campgrounds VS Guest: 14/14/12 They came early. Initially I woke up at around 8:30am and wrote about the previous day’s events but then laid down and passed out again until about 12:30PM and heard a little girl’s voice. I wasn’t sure what the deal was, but I got up and went into the dining room and my aunt Jayne said that my cousin Gina and her granddaughter…yes, granddaughter, were here early. What I would learn later was that Gina drove straight here with little to no breaks from Edmonton....

The 50mm Focal Length: Focal February Part Four
The 50mm lens is the focal length I have by far the most experience with. When I still shot film, just about every camera I came across had one snapped on, and so I tested at least a hundred cameras with a 50mm lens. I also owned a Sigma 50mm f1.4 EX DG HSM for a time, when I shot Canon. It was my favourite 50mm. I did try using the Nikon version when I made the switch but my workflow priorities have changed, but you will see I have used both versions in my choices here....

The 35mm Focal Length: Focal February Part Two
Some might argue that the 35mm focal length is the most famous of all. The “35 vs50” war has ranged on for decades, each saying it’s the best, each saying it’s the most diverse and for some reason, each claiming to be the equivalent of the human eye. I’m not here to add to that, only to show you my favorite photos taken at 35mm. If you’re curious, I’ll be covering 50mm in part four. The Church Camera: Canon EOS 5D (Original)Lens: Canon EF 16-35mm f2.8L USMDate:...

Making My Way Home – Road Trip Photography – Trans-Canada ’25 (XVIII)
Table of Contents July 11th & 12th. 2025: Day Thirty-Seven & Thirty-Eight Days in Hotels VS Campgrounds VS Guest: 13/14/10 The issue with missing a day is I definitely don’t remember as much, especially with all them bleeding together like they are but on the 11th I was primed to see Superman at the drive-in theatre. My cousin Jackie’s husband let me know that even though my radio may stay on when I turn off the car it might time out after a few minutes. So as a backup I went to Canadian Tire and bought a small “boom box” plus the cabin air cleaner that was recommended to me by the French mechanic a few weeks ago at Bumper to Bumper....

Historic Toronto – Urban Exploration Photography – Trans-Canada ’25 (XVII)
Table of Contents July 9th, 2025: Day Thirty-Five Days in Hotels VS Campgrounds VS Guest: 13/14/7 I rested today for the most part. My ankle was feeling slightly worse, and I accomplished quite a bit the previous day, so I figured I’d lay low. My Aunt and Uncle needed to run an errand, so I took the opportunity to clean up the laundry room somewhat. They’re in their 70s. Aunt Jody can’t really go downstairs at all, and Uncle Glen can’t bend over much, so there’s some dust bunnies and such and my last load of laundry had some dryer lint....

Table of Contents July 5th, 2025: Day Thirty-One Distance Travelled: 854KMDistance From Home: 3416KMDays in Hotels VS Campgrounds VS Guest: 13/14/3 Levis, Quebec - Mississauga, Ontario As much as I was not totally sure about leaving Quebec City, I did it. While I was driving away, I tried to visualize myself a couple years down the road, already having gone back by car or plane, and glad that I had made better plans. I’m exhausted and have seen so much and am not going to get everything in one go so I should probably start picking my final adventures for this trip more carefully....

Being was packed and out the door within an hour, I was doing a pretty good clip for a while until I saw a dead deer on the side of the road and made the smart choice to slow down and move into the right lane. I got tired fast....

Table of Contents July 2nd, 2025: Day Twenty-Eight Distance Travelled: 43.8KMDays in Hotels VS Campgrounds VS Guest: 11/13/3 Halifax, Nova Scotia I am happy to report I made today count. I had a good and much needed sleep, got up, made myself presentable and did some research before I left so I wouldn’t be wandering aimlessly. I decided to make my first stop at the Citadel National Historic Site. Now I’ve been avoiding museums and the like for this trip as I find it gives me a fishbowl feeling. Everything is….sterile....

Table of Contents July 1st, 2025: Day Twenty-Seven Distance Travelled: 144KMDays in Hotels VS Campgrounds VS Guest: 10/13/3 Dartmouth, Nova Scotia - Halifax, Nova Scotia - Peggy's Cove, Nova Scotia I headed to downtown Halifax right in the morning, eager to get things done and then I saw a massive crowd gathering, all with flags and shirts and hats, etc. celebrating Canada Day. You know that elusive obvious that occurs sometimes? Yeah, that was me, not even realizing that I would have issues finding parking, navigating the streets with loads of people for the parade, and also limited to what would be open during holiday hours....

I woke up at a decent time but past my alarm. It had been raining most of the night and was coming down pretty good with a healthy dose of fog. This meant converting like a Rubix Cube, that is, leaving everything confined to the car while moving it all around. It takes a little longer....

Forced myself out of bed, which was soft with old springs, and got my s**t together. Today I was headed for Nova Scotia, but not before picking up Starbucks. I asked for my usual but with an extra shot. They gave it to me hot instead of cold, but I got to keep both....
