Hi Instagram 👋

Long time no post but we are so excited to be back. This is our playroom which we set up (every Sunday) and tear down (every Friday) for the last two years! I'm not going to lie, we don't always enjoy this process... But today I was reminded that this is something we GET to do.

We GET the privilege of being open during a pandemic, we GET to go to work, we GET to work for ourselves, and we GET to serve our community with the talents we have been blessed with. Our work isn't something we have to do but something we GET to do.

I look forward to revamping our Instagram to share more of the behind the scenes of running a daycare and sharing more of our mission and vision at Little Roots.

Another great harvest! Our garden has survived two hail storms so far...

We love watching our little ones imagine and get dirty 🐄

We ❤️ our big open field and we definitely try to make the most of it during the summer.

We are so grateful to be at a location that allows us to have to this huge field, a playground and our garden. Outdoor time is so important for kids and their development and we believe it is an area that needs to be more prioritized by childcare centres. We spend 2- 2.5 hours outside everyday during the summer so that we can make the most of our short Calgary summers ☀️

Ms. Helen (our awesome toddler teacher) loves planning activities catered specifically for our kids and their interests. This little one has been obsessed with cars and trucks so Ms. Helen planned a no-mess truck tracks play activity. Anyone want to guess how long this kept him busy for 😂?

How have we changed our programming in response to COVID?

Our day-to-day interactions with the kids haven't changed but we have altered the materials we provide them to encourage physical distancing as much as possible (in a daycare setting). Each preschooler is given their own set of markers, play kit, playdoh, and worksheet folder to encourage some independent playing. This bin also has the added bonus of helping with responsibility with taking care of their own bins.

We are so fortunate to have an amazing outdoor space that we gotta make the most of it during the summer 😎👒

Our kids love being outside ☀️.

We aim to get all kids outside for 2 hours. We gotta make the most of this COVID summer!

While our preschoolers are busy gardening, our toddlers get their own personal sensory bins (physicallydistant-friendly).
