Beware of immigration agents who promise entry to Canada for the FIFA World Cup 2026™. No one can guarantee you a Canadian visa or an electronic travel authorization (eTA).

You’re responsible for all the information in your application, even if a representative completes it for you. Make sure all your documents are accurate, or you could risk a 5-year ban.

Canada is regaining control of its immigration system to restore balance and sustainability while continuing to attract and retain the world’s best talent, including international students. Graduate students make significant contributions to Canada’s research ecosystem and innovation, including in critical sectors like health care. Research also shows they integrate well into the labour market and are more likely to work in their field of study.

That’s why, even as we bring the number of international students down overall, we’ve launched priority processing for PhD students, simplified the application process for most grad degree students and improved our web resources for this group. Learn more: https://bit.ly/3NQDAmp

Hiring an immigration representative to help with your Canadian visa application?

Watch out for Unauthorized Practitioners (UAPs). A UAP is anyone who provides Canadian immigration advice for a fee or other consideration without being licensed by the College, a Canadian law society, or the Chambre des notaires du Québec. Doing this is illegal.

Protect yourself from immigration fraud. Verify that your representative is licensed: https://bit.ly/4mX1HMX

The proposed changes to the government’s authority to change, cancel or suspend immigration documents under the Strong Borders Act are not related to asylum claims. They would apply only to other immigration documents and applications like visas.

Under the proposed changes, the Government of Canada would have expanded authority to cancel, suspend, or change immigration documents, and to suspend, cancel or stop new applications when determined to be in the public interest.

These measures would give Canada greater control over its immigration documents and applications to protect Canadians, the integrity of the immigration system and public resources. They would help us better respond to large-scale emergencies, safety and security threats, or other unpredictable scenarios.
