Make Sleep Repeat
A day without making is a sad day. I make miniatures, costumes, props and assorted nonsense.

Another project inspired by Piece Of Cake Cosplay!
I have been playing around with latex and fabric. I designed some wing veins based on cicada wings. Then I laser cut two pairs out of some dark grey synthetic fabric. I sandwiched some matte polyester organza in between the veins. I glued the veins to the organza with a very thin layer of latex. Then I tinted latex in a few different colors with acrylic paint and mica powders.
After applying the colors to both sides of the organza, I painted over the veins with dark grey acrylic to clean them up. Finally, I applied a layer of gloss ModPodge to seal them.
These ones are doll sized but I'd like to try making a human sized pair.

It's been a hot minute but I'm finally back to mucking around creatively. I can't remember when, but I saw a video by Piece of Cake Cosplay where they were making faux leather using cotton fabric, paint and furniture wax. So I decided to give it a try. I'm working on a corset for my smart doll and any real leather I have is way too thick for this scale. I think I'm going to do one more coat of wax but I'm pretty pleased with how it's coming out. The light brown cotton fabric is what I started out with.

My younger son (15) and I made this scratch build for a Bill Making Stuff Patreon challenge. The idea/design was my son's. He was inspired by the giant robot hand that Bill made for his bot shop. He really wanted to do a giant robot head. The prompt was "fungus" so we made some little mushrooms to grow out of the robot head.
The whole thing is made of plastic, wood, wire, and metal bits. The base is foam core board slathered in a glue/sand/spackle mixture. The mushrooms are made of hot glue and wire.

New printer! My old one the screen gave out and it's so old, I can't get a replacement. I like that I can send stuff to print via wifi with this new one!

Now that it's gone to its recipient, I can post about my latest project. My friend Ben was one of the people who made the robotic Thing that was used to promote the Netflix show Wednesday (along with Jesse Velez from Raptor House). The algorithm recommended some tiny plastic Things to me and I decided to get them to make a holiday gift for Ben. Initially I was going to make a wreath with all the little Things wearing Santa hats and holding ornaments but my husband insisted that I should make a nativity scene with all of the characters made up of the Things. I decided that instead of a stable, they needed to be in an Addams Family carriage House.
I will post a "making of" album soon, but in the meantime please enjoy this ridiculousness.

Happy Halloween everyone! In honour of Halloween, I have finally uploaded an album of the making of my son's Poltergust G-00. It was mostly completed in 2022 but I have added a flashlight attachment for him this year (the vacuum piece is a bit cumbersome for trick or treating).

The Poltergust G-00 from Luigi's Mansion 3. I used this Instructable to help me make it but changed up a few things.

I'm still feeling very inspired by the starless sea and decided to try designing a couple of pendants to help me use up some scrap wood. They still need to be clear coated but I'm pretty happy with how they came out.

Ok I think I'm some with proton pack mods for the moment. We have one of our biggest fundraising events of the year coming up very soon so I wanted to make sure I got a few mods completed before then. I think the only other thing that I'm going to do is add a backpad to my Alice frame as the Frozen empire packs had them.
I'll be back to miniature projects shortly.
