With the closure of the Hudson's Bay stores, I thought I would post a photo of the first post/store in Calgary. The post came from Ghost River around 1876 after the fort was established. It was east of the Elbow near the confluence of the Bow and Elbow rivers. It moved to the DT on Centre St and 8th Ave. It is now where the ATB is located in the store. before the current one

Happy St. Nikolaus Patrick's day.
I havent found a story about green beer at the Shamrock Hotel that started possibly between 1937 and 1942 ll. I Belton McCartney who ran the bar at the time used an eyedropper and a green dye to create the effect.
This article from the Albertan dated Mar 16, 1967 which talks about the Calgary Brewert's involvement with Green Bar in thev1960s.

Sad to hear the Hudson's Bay stores are closing. They've even hin Calgary since just after the arrival of the NWMP IN 1875.
Happy Flag Day. Today is 60 years after the current Canadian flag and it has a Calgary connection.
The home at 1111-7th St SW was the boy hood home of George Stanley who proposed the design of the flag. At the time, he was Dean of the Royal Military College. Stanley took the design of the flag of the military collegege which had the familiar red bars with the white background in the middle and replaced the college's emblem with the red maple leaf.
It was a restaurant for a number of years. Apparently it is for sale for just over $1.7 million.
