Dr. Kara recently completed root canal treatment on tooth #31 which presented with some unique complex anatomy (Dx: PN, SAP). Radiographic analysis showed a main mesial canal and then a separate distal infolding penetrating through the root with its own apical foramen. Based on Oehlers’ classification (1957), this appears to be a Type IIIb dens invaginatus (DI). The DI had an open apex, therefore apexification was performed and it was sealed apically with bioceramic putty. Teeth can have such variable anatomy!

Dr. Bogle recently completed a challenging root canal on tooth #17 (Dx: Pulpal necrosis, SAP).
There were heavily calcified and no clearly discernible canals noted on the CBCT.
Clinically, 3 canals were conservatively located and obturated through the heavy internal calcifications using a microscope. Dr. Bogle was also able to keep the access conservative through the crown (see photos). A tough case with a favourable outcome!

Dr. Lai performed retreatment on tooth #36 (Dx: PT, SAP). There was a larger PARL on the mesial root and thermafil obturants observed clinically in the canals. Check out the incredible healing noted on a follow up CBCT after 1 year. Now that is a successful outcome!

Cracked teeth can have many types of symptoms, including pain when chewing, temperature sensitivities, or even the release of biting pressure. It is also common for tooth pain to come and go, making it difficult to diagnose the cause of discomfort.

Chewing can cause movement of the cracked pieces of your tooth, and the pulp(the inside of the tooth) becomes irritated. At the same time, when biting pressure is released, the crack can close quickly, resulting in sharp pain. Eventually, the pulp will become damaged and tooth will consistently hurt, even when you are not chewing. It is possible that cracks can lead to infection of the pulp tissue, which can spread to the bone and gum surrounding the problematic tooth. It is important to always talk to your general dentist if you are experiencing discomfort or pain in your tooth, they may refer you to an Endodontist(Root Canal Specialist) to investigate further.
