Super excited to share that I have joined the Unconventional Panel on CBC’s Eyeopener.

It’s been two months…I guess I wanted to be sure myself before I shared it here, because for me it’s HUGE.

The CBC (Canadian Broadcasting Corporation) is Canada’s national public radio and television broadcaster.

The Eyeopener is CBC’s flagship morning radio program for Southern Alberta, connecting listeners across Calgary and the surrounding region. The Unconventional Panel is a recurring segment that brings together Calgarians from different backgrounds and experiences to discuss current issues, community life, and the topics shaping our city.

This is a show I have listened to for years, since I moved to Canada as a new immigrant.

For me, this opportunity is about more than offering opinions on current events. It’s another step toward something I’ve been passionate about for years: increasing the visibility of South Asian/Pakistani-Canadians and other multicultural voices in spaces where public conversations happen.

Growing up, I rarely saw people who looked like me, spoke like me, or carried the same cultural experiences represented in mainstream Canadian media.

As a parent, creator, and proud Pakistani Canadian, I want my children to grow up knowing that their identity is not something that exists on the sidelines but a part of the Canadian story.

Representation matters not because we all think the same way, but because our different experiences add depth, perspective, and understanding to the conversations that shape our communities.

I’m grateful for the opportunity to bring my voice, experiences, and cultural lens to the table, and I’m looking forward to the discussions ahead.

Thank you to everyone who has supported me on this journey: from Live urdu story time to now joining conversations on public radio. Every step has been guided by the same goal: celebrating our roots while building connections across cultures.

Catch the show every Wednesday morning 7.45am MST

Gosht Bhar literally means “meat stuffing” and I learnt this recipe from my Khala who still lovingly makes it for us! Gosht Bhar was used to stuff bigger roasted animals but it’s great on its own with fries and a side to rice! Do let me know if you make it ❤️
