If there's ever a reason for me to win.....she is definitely one of them.
Almost 16 years ago I was blessed with the gift of being called father...or dad...or papa...or something like that.
I was clueless to what it would take to assume that role to the point I now remember my dear mother - may her soul rest in peace - chuckling and telling me the work has only just begun after I told her I can now rest because she's finally born.
Have I been the "PERFECT" parent? Nope. But I certainly learned a whole lot from my attempt to parent this amazing young lady. Learning how to adjust from the style that my parents used and mix & match and do some upgrades.
Were there times I faced trials and tribulations and feel like giving up. YEP! But I'm happy quitting is not in my vocabulary on top of that SHE IS MY FLESH & BLOOD and quitting her would be quitting myself!
I am blessed she came into my life when she did because I have learned a whole lot being a parent to this awesome young lady. I sometimes think I learn more from her than I teach her!

LIVING IN THE PAST?
Â
Itâs quite natural for us to think about the past and judge ourselves.
âAm so horrible because I didâŚâ âAm stupid because I stayed in that toxic relationship for that longâ
âAm bad because I made this or that mistakeâ are some of the thoughts we bully ourselves with.
Â
What if we recognized those mistakes just isâŚand look back at them as lessons rather than self judgement and self-inflicted life sentences?
Â
I have learned that life has a way of teaching us lessons and those lessons come when we make mistakes. We can either ignore those lessons or learn how to be better now and in the future with them.
Â
Didnât spend âenoughâ time with a loved one in the past? It doesnât make you horrible. Good you recognize it now. Go do some things and improve it going forward.
Â
Stayed in a toxic relationshipâŚor threeâŚfor too long. That doesnât make you stupid. Now that you recognize it start looking at how you choose.
Â
The rear view mirror is smaller than the windscreen on your car for a reason. Itâs used to check where youâre coming from and to switch lanes. The windscreen is to look forward along that journey.

FAILURE â SENTENCE OF DOOM OR CATALYST FOR GROWTH?
Â
Our society today teaches that failing is a horrible thing, right?
Â
Itâs reached the point where even in schools they have gone as far as to say teachers should no longer âfailâ students because it lowers self esteem.
Â
In sporting activities children are getting âparticipating certificatesâ rather than awarding the winners based on who is the top performer.
Â
And they wonder why self esteem is becoming lower? Isnât it because they are discouraging top performance and encouraging mediocrity?
Â
A better solution would be to continue encouraging and awarding top performers and rather than ridiculing the âloosersâ- they pull them aside and counsel them. Ask them what did you learn from this loss? What can you do next time to improve?
Â
Let us start teaching our children to FAIL PROFESSIONALLY and use failures as a catalyst for growth!

DO YOU SETTLE FOR SHORT TERM COMFORT?
Â
We often go for instant gratification a.k.a. short-term comfort and sacrifice long term gains.
Â
The moment we realise things are getting tough we cave and run towards comfort; we hide in that comfort zone. Itâs human nature after all. Itâs what society teaches. Be cozy. Be comfy.
Â
But we gotta realise that all the things we want is out of our comfort zone.
Just do one more. Push a little bit harder. Tolerate a bit more discomfort.
Â
Step out of that comfort zone and achieve whatâs out there for us. LETâS DO IT!!!
