ABP is in Colorado this week for the 2026 Canada Day celebrations hosted by Consul General of Canada in Denver, Sarah Quigley.

On Wednesday, General Manager Brad Dubeau joined representatives from government, industry and the Canada-U.S. business community to celebrate the strong connections between Canada and the U.S.

Events like this provide valuable opportunities to strengthen relationships, share Alberta's beef story and highlight the important role international partnerships play in supporting our industry.

Thank you to the Consulate General of Canada in Denver for the invitation, fellow attendees for the discussion of issues and opportunities facing the beef industry, and to JBS Canada for providing the delicious beef served at the reception.

How big is the world's largest cattle breed?

In central Italy, Chianina cattle can stand up to two metres tall and weigh more than 1,200 kilograms (2,645 pounds). Known as the "white giant," the breed is prized for its lean beef and premium market value.

But the breed also comes with its challenges. Producers say Chianina cattle are more aggressive than most commercial breeds and require longer production timelines and careful management.

Read more about how one Italian family continues to raise this historic breed despite the added demands in this ABP Daily story, written by Melanie Epp:

Protecting native prairie while building a healthy, productive cattle operation.

At Riverview Ranch near Grassy Lake, the Torrie family is combining more than 100 years of ranching experience with approach such as rotational grazing and virtual fencing to improve pasture management, protect sensitive landscapes and support cattle health.

Their approach demonstrates how environmental stewardship and beef production can work hand in hand, helping preserve native ecosystems while making the most of Alberta's grasslands.

Managing wildlife pressure across Alberta’s beef industry

A new article on ABP Daily highlights practical strategies producers are using to help reduce wildlife-related losses and manage risk, as the industry works toward further solutions.

“Every operation is different, and there’s no one-size-fits-all solution,” says Lee Irvine, ABP Director and Delegate from the Southwest Zone. “But producers have developed a lot of practical experience over the years when it comes to managing wildlife pressure and reducing risk where possible.”
