Each fur was a story, blending regal sophistication with her signature cool-girl edge. I am often asked, “What’s business casual?” nowadays. The answer is both simple and complex. Although offered a more flexible sartorial space, we usually feel confused by the blurred lines. What is appropriate and what is not? I always stress how important it is to read the room and what activity you will be involved in that day. Smart casual will be different when you have an important meeting vs. a casual Friday when you’re doing office work at your desk. I made a random selection of outfits I would wear now in any office setup. Did your organization implement a more flexible dress code after Covid, or are you still expected to dress professionally daily?

A few weeks ago I have received a DM from a lovely lady who asked some feedback on her outfit. She was wearing a nice textile flower neckpiece, and I decided to elaborate of this fun, but somehow very risky accessory. How to style floral brooches and pins? It’s so so easy to overdo it. Most of women do. Contrary to many beliefs, you should not pair the pin with lookalike aesthetic elements like polka dots, ruffles, floral prints. Instead, think of juxtaposition and contrast. Pair these romantic flowers with masculine elements and clean cuts. These are just visual elements with what I had in my wardrobe and works on my silhouette. You can do your own interpretation with lookalike pieces. What’s an oversized white button up for me could easily translate into a straight or fitted poplin button up. Baggy or loose cut jeans could be anything from Mom cut, stove pipe, to straight cut wide, and boyfriend. Which one is your favourite look? 1,2,3,4,5?💃

Are you short waisted like me? Here are some easy hacks I learned as a personal stylist. 💃 1️⃣ The waistband will likely hit you way lower when your natural waist creating a disproportionate, unflattering silhouette. Here is what you can do about it. Get a thicker waist belt and strategically place it one, two inches above the waistband. It will hide the original waistband and create the optical illusion of a higher waist. 2️⃣ If you are short-waisted, most dresses plunge too low under your armpits. Opt for designs with adjustable spaghetti straps rather than basic ones. Alternatively, layer a blazer, a sweater, or a leather jacket if you don’t have adjustable straps. 3️⃣ Belt or tie loops are frustrating because they hit way lower than your natural waist. Cut them off. Yes, cut them off to control how low or high your tie hits you. 4️⃣ Opt for dresses with an empirical silhouette. An empirical waist hits right under your breast, matching your natural high waist.

Let’s talk a little about VALUE, another of my core values as a personal stylist and personal shopper. Pick your fights wisely. Is $80 a lot for a T-shirt? Yes, but it’s good value if it’s a Theory T-shirt that is going to look impeccable and last you at least 3 years. Do I have to spend a fortune on good shoes? Not every time. You can find great leather heels, loafers and boots from Zara. Is a designer bag really worth it? Yes, if you have the budget for it. And by budget I mean disposable income that you could splurge on a Chanel bag without having to save 3 years for it. Splurging on designer items without the financial capacity to sustain them is tacky and classless. You can always find mid range brands like Frame, Rag & Bone, Staud and so on, brands that will deliver you both the quality, the good design, and the stylish edge. Knowing how to mix and match designer and high street pieces is a sign of confidence, great style, and smart behavioural tendencies. Don’t underestimate it. 🤌👋

Timeless is one of my core values as a personal stylist. When I dress my clients, I focus on pieces that will serve them well 5-10 years from now. This is one key question you should ask yourself when buying a new piece. Will it still be relevant and easy to wear in 5 years? Will it last? Will it still serve my lifestyle? Will it still fit in my wardrobe and reflect my personal style well? Will it still be age-appropriate? What is the oldest item you have in your wardrobe that you can still proudly wear?
