Join us for this Sunday at Cornerstone Church for a wonderful time celebrating our Heavenly Father!

It’s Father’s Day at Cornerstone Church and so every guy gets a little gift. It’s not the keys to the kingdom but it’s close.

Ramon and Rho are leading us in worship and Pastor Hooly is preaching the Word. We are so happy to be able to give out food hampers this Sunday as well as having the Smile Shop open. God has blessed our church to be a blessing.

Remember: You are welcome. You are wanted. You belong. You are loved.

We look forward to seeing you this Sunday at Cornerstone Church @ 10:30 am.

“And I thank Christ Jesus our Lord who has enabled me, because He counted me faithful, putting me into the ministry, although I was formerly a blasphemer, a persecutor, and an insolent man; but I obtained mercy because I did it ignorantly in unbelief. And the grace of our Lord was exceedingly abundant, with faith and love which are in Christ Jesus. This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am chief.”
‭‭I Timothy‬ ‭1‬:‭12‬-‭15‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

There have been many awful things done in God’s name but not all of them were motivated by a hatred towards God. Some people have been sincere in their passion for God but have been sincerely wrong.

It’s amazing to me that God got a hold of such a man.

He persecuted God’s people, dragging men and women off to prison. He began a campaign to travel to other cities to seek out and eliminate the followers of Jesus. In fact, the first time we meet him he is approving of a mob stoning a man to death just because he was a committed follower of Jesus. All the while, he thought he was doing God a favour.

Saul of Tarsus is now more commonly known as Paul the Apostle.

I just can’t help but think that if God could get a hold of Saul, surely He could reach those today who are enemies of the cross.

Do you ever wonder how the early church prayed for him? I would think many people would have been praying against him.
“Stop him, Lord”. “Remove him, Lord”.
“Let his plans be thwarted, Lord”.

I just really wonder if anyone was praying “Save him, Lord. Have mercy on him, Lord. Reach him, Lord”.

I wonder if the words of Jesus from the cross would have been a very appropriate prayer.
“Forgive him, Lord, for he doesn’t know what he is doing.”

I’m very glad God reached him.

Sometimes we only pray about those who are opposed to the kingdom of God, especially when they are in places of power and authority, such as the political leaders of our day.

It’s time to not just pray about them, but it’s time to pray for them, that God would have mercy on them and save them, for he is not willing that any should perish.

Even Paul will tell us praying for those in authority is of ‘first importance’.

So let us pray.

Join us for this Sunday at Cornerstone Church for a wonderful time of worship, the word, and won another (keeping with the w’s).

Lisa is leading us in worship and Pastor Kathleen is bringing the message.

Plan to stay after the service and enjoy some visiting in the lobby, or maybe think about having lunch with someone. There is need to rush out, other than if you linger too long you’ll get to join the Spanish Church Service at 2pm.

We don’t really have a seat with your name on it, but in our hearts we do.

It’s not the same without you. Each person in our church is loved and valued and wanted.

You are welcome. You are wanted. You belong. You are loved.

We look forward to seeing you this Sunday at Cornerstone Church @ 10:30 am.

Wednesday June 10
Now David said, “Is there still anyone who is left of the house of Saul, that I may show him kindness for Jonathan’s sake?” 2 Samuel 9:1

Not every act of kindness needs to be random.

Random acts of kindness can been seen everywhere.
Maybe it’s the iconic ‘buy the next customer’s coffee’ gift that can become a chain of kindness to the whole line of customers.
Perhaps it’s the counter cultural perspective of ‘you before me’ instead of ‘elbows up’ and pushing our way to the front.
It can even be secretly supporting someone in need without the expectation of recognition, acknowledgement or a receipt for income tax purposes.

Today’s verse reminds us that our kindness doesn’t need to be random. King David was on the lookout for someone to be kind to. He wanted to bless Jonathan’s family even though Jonathan had been killed.

David’s kindness wasn’t random; it was intentional.

Random acts of kindness can be wonderful expressions of spontaneous thoughtfulness, but let’s not stop there. Instead of just being kind when we happen to stumble into opportunities, might we consider taking some time to think about how we can show kindness to others.

Kindness to a family member.
Kindness to a friend.
Kindness to a co worker
Kindness to a neighbour.
Kindness to someone we haven’t seen in a while.
Kindness to an employer
Kindness to someone we are not fond of.

Let’s be more than accidentally kind or spontaneously kind - let’s lean into being intentionally kind, and in doing so, may we glorify our Father in heaven.

Then King David went in and sat before the LORD; and he said: “Who am I, O Lord GOD? And what is my house, that You have brought me this far? 2 Samuel 7:18

David, the insignificant shepherd boy, had become King David and was now the man songs had been written about. He had come a long way from tending sheep to shepherding God’s people. The road wasn’t easy and the journey wasn’t quick, but God had been with him the whole time.

It was in King David’s heart to build the house of God - a place where the presence of God could rest. He even had the “go ahead” from Nathan the prophet, right until God spoke to Nathan to tell David to pause his construction plans.

Nathan returned to David and told him that instead of David building God’s house, God was going to build David’s house - a lineage of rulers that we know extended all the way to King Jesus who was of the house and lineage of David.

As David receives this news, instead of doing the dance of joy, he comes before the Lord in worship and prayer and exclaims “Why me, Lord?” His words reveal how overwhelmed his heart is . Why has God been so good to him? Who is he that God has done all this for him and is promising even more?

Overwhelming gratitude in the face of God’s unmerited favour.

Gratitude for God’s Grace.

Take a moment right now to pause and consider how good God has been to you.

Who am I that Jesus would die for me?
Who am I that His blessings would follow me?
Who am I that God would love me so much?

Aren’t you grateful for God’s grace?
I know I am.

Pastor Barry

My soul clings to the dust; revive me according to Your Word.
My soul melts from heaviness; strengthen me according to Your Word.
Psalm 119:25&28

The Psalmist was no stranger to hard times. Read again the imagery he uses.

My soul clings to the dust.
The picture is that of sorrow and grief.
It’s not that dust is clinging to him but rather he is clinging to the dust. You don’t get much lower than this.

My soul melts from heaviness.
Weighted and burdened, even the slightest sense of endurance under pressure has been eroded.

In this place of sorrow and grief, with no strength of his own, he knows enough to turn to God’s Word.

God’s Word has the ability to revive his soul. Revival is different than having a spiritual awakening. To revive something is to bring it back to life. It’s not a start; it’s a recovery.
If the spiritual life you once had has slipped away in the face of sorrow and grief, allow God’s Word to breathe new life in you today.

Has your soul melted from the heavy burdens of life? Sometimes it’s not just one big burden but a seemingly endless supply of one weight after another until the proverbial straw breaks the camels back. Allow God’s Word to lift the burden and fill you with hope and joy.

Take a few moments and start reading through this entire Psalm. It is the longest chapter in the Bible. Structured so beautifully in the style of Hebrew poetry, allow your heart to be strengthened and lifted as God’s Word washes over you today.

Pastor Barry

Please join us This Sunday at Cornerstone Church at 10:30 am.

This Sunday is Pentecost Sunday, the day we remember and celebrate the outpouring of the Holy Spirit upon the disciples and the birthday of the church!

God is still pouring His Spirit out upon all those who invite the fullness of His Presence.

Lisa is leading us in worship and Shauna is sharing about, yup – you guessed it… PENTECOST!

Come hungry and your soul will be fed.
Come thirsty and your longing will be quenched.
Seek Him while He may be found.

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever and He still baptizes us with the Holy Spirit and with fire.

Let’s join with expectant hearts as we gather together this Sunday at Cornerstone Church @ 10:30 am.

Here I Am With You

1 Samuel 14:6–7
Then Jonathan said to the young man who bore his armor, “Come, let us go over to the garrison of these uncircumcised; it may be that the Lord will work for us. For nothing restrains the Lord from saving by many or by few.” So his armorbearer said to him, “Do all that is in your heart. Go then; here I am with you, according to your heart.”

It is a pretty powerful thing for someone to say “Here I am with you.”

In today’s verse Jonathan wasn’t sure if the Lord would help him fight the enemy.

He knew the Lord could help but he didn’t know if the Lord would help.

He proposed to his armour bearer that they give it a try.
This unnamed man who carried Jonathan’s armour replied that he was with him.

“Here I am with you.”

“Whatever, whenever - I’m with you.“

That’s devotion. That’s friendship. That’s powerful.

You don’t need a lot of people like this, but you really do need at least one.

Is there one person in your life who you are able to see is with you?

For whatever and whenever you need them, they simply say “Here I am with you.”

Maybe they are there but you just can’t see them.

Ask the Lord to show you who can be your armourbearer, ready to face any obstacle with you.

If you can’t see them, ask the Lord to bring them.

A friend. An amigo. Someone who will stick with you.

Some people have many, some have few, some have just one.

May the Lord gift you a really good friend.

And may you be that really good friend to others.

Following Jesus Together,

Pastor Barry
