A question of priorities.

The first powered airplane passenger fatality is recorded as September 17, 1908 – Army Signal Corps Wright Model A, Army Signal Corps serial number 1, piloted by Orville Wright, crashes at Ft. Myer, Virginia, killing Lt. Thomas E. Selfridge. In flight that begins just after 0700 hrs., a propeller breaks and severs control wires. Rebuilt. Retired 4 May 1911, and now in Smithsonian Institution National Air and Space Museum, Washington, D.C., accepted on 20 October 1911. Selfridge AFB, Michigan, was later named for the first U.S. military air crash victim. Wright is also hospitalized until 31 October and spends several more weeks on crutches.

In the early hours of September 4th Beryl Markham departed from Abingdon, England, to land at Baleine Cove, Nova Scotia, Canada, on September 5, 1936, after a grueling 21-to-24-hour flight. Her journey made her the first woman to fly solo, non-stop from east to west across the North Atlantic from Europe to North America.

World Mosquito Day (August 20) was first established in 1897, when the link between mosquitoes and malaria transmission was discovered by Sir Ronald Ross.

Of course the "noble" mosquito carries other major diseases as well including West Nile virus, dengue, Zika, and chikungunya.

If you work or travel in areas where these diseases persist for your safety take this seriously - and do what you can to improve things for your coworkers/travelers too!

Highly recommend you get comfortable with statistics - for every day life, or for working in safety.

The best start making sense of big numbers is watching some of the TED Talks done by Hans Rosling. He'll help you see that statistics doesn't have to be confusing and can actually be fun!
