Bastion Rifle Matches

Unfortunately, we have had to make the difficult decision to cancel the match. We have heard from several of you regarding concerns about traveling into the region. On speaking with emergency services, although things are going better they are still very precarious and the hot weather forecast in the next few days is concerning. The last thing we want to do is cancel a couple days out and leave everyone hanging. Emails will follow and we will be getting your refunds to you next week. For those who are local email us and let us know if you would be interested in a "drop-in" 1-day fun match on the Saturday.

We are waiting until tomorrow to see if the travel/accommodation bans are lifted as several evacuated areas are being allowed back into their homes. I know this has a lot of you waiting. As it does us, in fact, my parent's home, where I was supposed to be staying is in an evacuation zone as well

We are watching the fire situation in the region of the range very closely. If things get worse we may have to cancel the match. Check in here for updates. In speaking with local officials the next few days will be pivotal. Fingers crossed and prayers to all those in the area.

Range Estimation
Range estimation is pretty much what it sounds like. It’s an estimated distance between you and the target. There are several techniques to estimating range, such as the 100-meter-unit-of-measure method, appearance-of-object method, bracketing method, range card method, and of course, a combination method.

Hunters do this on a regular basis as do operational snipers. When a target of opportunity presents itself and you haven't had the opportunity to build your range card. A quick estimation and understanding the ballistics of your system will get you hits out to moderate distances.

With the advent of lasers, its a lost art. For the operational sniper when weather conditions set in, tech fails or it can't be turned on. Milling is an essential skill to have. For those coming to the match.....just saying
